Hm…whenever I use iTunes with wireless networking active, I get a lot of skipping.  If I pause the song for a second and hit play again, it goes away briefly, only to come back in a few seconds.  Any ideas?

Which TR do you have? I assume you’re using 802.11b connections. It could one of many things. One thing to check is the wireless device in the Device Manager and look for the power settings. It might be on “auto” or something like that. You might want to try to force it to not use power saving as that might affect transmission signals.

Another thing is that you could be experiencing a lot of noise. Do you have other 2.4Ghz devices in the area? Microwaves, cordless home telephones, bluetooth devices, and other 802.11b networks use the 2.4Ghz range and can interfere with your connection causing it to have less than stellar performance. You might not notice in typical web surfing but you would definitely see it in streaming.

Here’s a longshot: try disabling looking for shared playlists and sharing playlists in the preferences. iTunes might be causing traffic by searching for other playlists on your network. Apple networking software is notoriously chatty.

Done and done, but still no dice—I even tried turning off the option to connect to the internet at all.  Boosting the antenna strength to maximum didn’t do it either. Not really sure—the weird thing is that it does it when I try to play files on the TR (PCG-TR2AP) and when I’m streaming…I get about 10 seconds clean, and then heavy stuttering.  Winamp has no such problems.  I should note that this isn’t really a great wireless connection—at my friend’s house I was getting a consistent “Excellent” rating, and no stuttering problems.

Are you running iTunes 4.2? 4.1 had some skipping issues that were resolved with the upgrade. Worth a shot if you haven’t already done so.

Yup, did that.  Well, what I *should* be doing is trying to find a solid net connection rather than whatever’s floating through the air in my neighborhood, but…well, I just want iTunes to work anyway.  :wink:

Well, workaround becomes apparent.  I don’t see why I can’t be on my terrible connection and play music on iTunes…but maybe Apple’s engineers decided that only those on nice wireless connections get music.

I do not question such wisdom.
