By heavy typer….do you mean a frequent typer (heavy usage) or a key pounder (heavy typist)? You might want to go to a local computer store and try out the notebook before you buy it. Chains like CompUSA and Fry’s Electronis normally have them on display. This will give you the best idea of if you can type well on the notebook.
One thing you’ll notice about a notebook keyboard (in general) is that you don’t need to bang on it very hard as the keys depress much less than a typical keyboard. So, you can potentially type a lot faster with less fatigue if you’re a touch typist.
If you’re going to be typing at home mostly then you may want to get an external keyboard as you’ll have a fuller set of keys available for editing. Some of the editing keys on the TR require you to press key combinations to achieve the same effect.
Man, they allow high school students to take notes on laptops nowadays?! At any rate, be sure to thank your parents for this nice gift as even most of us working folk have to think twice before dropping that kind of cash on a notebook! And, you’d better get 5s on all of your AP tests.
