During an enquiry with Sony about the battery charging/performance slowdown issue I appear to be having I also asked if it was normal for the temperature of the CPU to exceed 85 degrees during games sessions.

He mentioned that I should buy a can of compressed air to blast into the air vents as they may have become dusty. So I explained the machine was only 2 weeks old. He said it may have been kept in a dusty room before I received it (?!**?) Oh, and he also advised me to blast the compressed air into the system because it “keeps the fan belt clean”

Er..

Fan.
Belt.

What , like a car? or vacuum cleaner? Do I need to replace the FAN BELT regularly, can I buy spares?

Well I knew you had to do THAT, but I thought they got rid of fan belts when they implemented water cooling that you top up through the firewire port every Monday. Around about 8 o’clock. Unless it’s cold out, then you can just use a bit of snow.

I think you found a used car salesman trying a career change.

But is IS a little scary, isn’t it? That these are the front line troops when dealing with the company - that ok, they shouldn’t need to know the product inside out, but some basic training may help. and maybe calling customers back when they say they will instead of waiting for them to call your premium line to find ouit the answers to their questions….

Oh well, so far not as bad as Dell, but there’s a way to go yet.

Don’t expect it to get any better unless you want to pay even more for the Sony name.  Good service usually comes at a price, and that price is all too often passed on to the consumer.  I buy Sony because most of the time there is no need to even call for support.  Sony usually gets it right the first time.  The same cannot be said for the competition.
