No technology lasts forever. But even the article states that bluetooth isn’t dead and will likely be a player past 2007. That’s two processor generations. If you still have your TR then, you’ll be buying weird little adapters so it can use the latest whatever.
The point is, we have Bluetooth now, today, and it (mostly) works. This is particularly true in its original target market, cellphone connectivity. The BT SIG is addressing its failings and the two competing technologies are still refining standards and fighting amongst themsevles. Meanwhile chipmakers are devising multistandard wireless chips so future choices may not entail what network to use but which ones you want to use.
