Hi,
I’m looking at getting a TR3… But I am also looking at an LG (I think they are only sold in Australia)... which has a 32mb 9200 video card, 1.5ghz centrino, 512mb Ram, 80gb hdd etc…. My question is, which one is better for games?... They are both light in weight, have similar features etc, but the video card seems to stand out the most. I’ve searched through the forum, and I know there are topics already on this, but no-one has actually said which one would be best… I know neither one is ideal for games, but based on my choices which would run the best?...

The intel is shared, not sure about the ATI, but I doubt it is. If thats the case, the ATI is the better card. Just from guessing though, i would think the ATI is a better card all around even if it has 32MB less.
[quote author=“wormdrummer”]Yeah, the Ati is dedicated 32mb…. I just didn’t know if the amount of ram would make up for the lack of speed in terms of getting games playable….
Well, its other factors then that. Do a side-by-side comparison of their features and what they support…that will reveal the true winner, but I would bet money it’s the ATI.
Definitely the ATI. Even thought the Intel855 chipset for the TR3 uses 64meg of system memory, the memory is not dedicated to the video so it’s not as fast as the ATI 32meg. Also the 855 uses the main CPU to do all the calculations which will slow down everything else while the ATI uses a dedicated GPU (Graphic Processing Unit, also called VPU, V being for Video) so the main CPU has less workload.
But if you want a games machine, neither the LG or the TR will be what you want. Play hardcore games at home.
The ATI chip is discrete and is a DirectX 8.1 class chip with built-in hardware based Transform and Lighting abilities (crucial for high performance 3D stuff). The Intel Extreme Graphics is integrated and is DirectX 7/8 class (it’s more fully DirectX 7 and has elements of 8) and it doesn’t have T&L abilities forcing the CPU to do all the work.
So, the ATI Radeon 9200 even with 32MB will be drastically better in games that require T&L (a large percentage of current games).
