I’d like to propose another test.

using Mobile meter, can you guys with S-series tell me what your CPU temp gets up to when running a graphically intensive app such as doom 3 for a while?

Mobile meter is available here, and is a pretty useful tool.

I’m getting CPU readings of >80 degrees, and am concerned it may be too high.

Higets mine went up to was 71 but did not play for a exteneded amount of time.  I did also notice that the cpu its self must step down even so you disable power saving.

hmm with doom3 at 800x600, high quality, I’m getting temps of 80+ degrees within a few minutes. Same with Ground Control 2 and a number of other apps.

Called Sony about it and they’re gonna get back to me. Also brought up the battery charging/loss of performance issue..

I get roughly the same range of temperatures as u Wadham.  After a few minutes the CPU goes up to 80c when playing Doom3.  I dont think its that worrying because I know that the previous range of P4-m processors could hack temperatures of up to 99c according to Intels technical data on those CPU’s.

Good - oh. Thanks for the feedback. I noticed that on Intel’s site they state that the max temp for the chip is 100 degrees. Just seems odd that they should run so hot..

Also just noticed that if i set the fan speed midway in the VAIO optimised power settings, games still play well and the temp rarely peaks beyond 65 degrees….maybe this is a suitable compromise.
