You can’t use the backup utility over BT. If you’ll notice, the P900 reboots into a safe mode sort of state while it’s backing up and then reboots again. The cradle is the only way to back your phone up. You can connect via BT to use the My P900 icon to browse the P900 and the memory stick.
Anyway, here’s how to connect them for the My P900 icon to work:
- Install Windows XP SP2
- Pair the P900 and the computer
- In Control Panel go to Bluetooth Devices and click on the P900 then properties
- Click on the Services tab and make sure Serial Port is checked
- Click OK
- Click on the COM Ports tab
- Note the Outgoing and Incoming ports. Mine are COM5 and COM6 respectively. Yours may be different, but when I say COM5 and COM6 below, substitute whatever yours are.
- Click OK
This is how to connect them:
- Double-click on the “Phone Connection Link” icon in the tray to bring up Link Properties.
- Make sure Bluetooth is checked. USB may be checked, it won’t affect the connection process.
- Check COM5 next. Last, check COM6. The Bluetooth status should change to “connecting” then to “connected”. You’re in. Go to My P900 and have a ball.
To unconnect:
- Uncheck COM6. Uncheck COM5. Uncheck Bluetooth.
- Recheck Bluetooth once its status is “not connected”
