Apologies for not being TR related, although I’ll be using my TR for this…..

I’m looking to start buiding a couple of websites which I already have registered.  I wondered if people could point me in the right direction with regards to website design software - it needs to be fairly straightforward as I have no experience here (I have a copy of MS Front Page - no doubt I’ll be flamed for that) and also I need some guidance for an FTP client program.

And who else would I trust except you guys!

Before I get flamed, I’ve just seen several posts in the off topic part of the forum, my apologies….

However, no mention of a FTP client program??

I’ve just re-done my brother’s website ( cheeky link! ) and learnt a lot off this site.  I did the whole thing just using notepad which just goes to show you don’t need fancy software to do it!

As for an FTP client I’ve been using smartFTP which I haven’t had any troubles with at all.

If you’re new to it you may want to stick with a WYSIWYG editor. The latest FrontPage 2003 software is actually pretty good. Another popular one is Dreamweaver which is also good and has built-in FTP and also allows you to see the HTML code it generates side by side.

In terms of a regular FTP client. I’m actually like this neat software called WebDrive . It’s not a traditional FTP program but rather it allows you to map FTP, WebDAV, etc. sites directly to a drive letter in your Windows Explorer. And you can pretty much do all of the basic explorer commands on that drive. So, you can drag and drop files, delete folders, create folders, and even see thumbnails like you would in explorer. And it has a special properties tag so you can change file permissions/attributes (i.e. CHMOD).
