I don’t know the exact chipset name but i’m almost certain it’s made by Atheros. It could be the AR5001X, AR5002X or AR5004X chipsets…

where can i buy this card ? anyone know?

‘do you know the part number for japanese wireless LAN?’  they probably turn me away

btw, i did some research and sony blow the price out of the proportion.  i looked at TR1 service manual and search for the wireless LAN part number.  it’s intel 2100 802.11b and cost < $10 but sony sells it for….. $100+

i prefer not to buy it from them if possible.  like what groovyone did to his netegriti card, it’s cheaper that way.

Well, does it matter? Are you running a 802.11a network?

You may just want to wait a few months to get the Intel PRO/Wireless 2915 card that has A/B/G and should cost less than $40-50. It will probably work very well in the TR, use less power than the JDM model’s card, and it will work well and come with better software. It’s shipping already but probably won’t be in the mainstream markets for another month or two.

intel 2200 is 802.11b/g
intel 2915 is 802.11a/b/g

why’re the intel chipset’s soo much cheaper than the generics?

efficient use of resources will decrease the cost of production.

Does it worth it to change my 2100 into 2200? I v been using it and i think it works pretty well. Would it really be faster ?
