If you answer yes to any of the following, get the iRiver:
- You won’t ever buy from the iTunes store
- You don’t rip your music to AAC in iTunes
- You use (unprotected) WMA files, FLAC or Ogg Vorbis format
- Seeing the name of a song on the remote is important to you
- You have a music collection between 4 and 20 GB (baked in a pie)
- You will use the player to transport files between one computer and another
- long battery life is important to you
- You want to be able to record sounds/voices on-the-fly
- You want a digital output

to add upon this, the iriver can be a bit complex. i know a guy with one that says he’s still learning how to use every feature after 3 months. ipods are easy and pretty to use
Despite the ipod and HD mp3 player hype, i really think that they are not versitle and a lot of the features is unpractical. it is better to get a 512mb mp3 player with a usb 2.0 outlet like mine. 512 is enough for all your favourite songs. it is small, the battery should last you 6 hours of playback, that’s a lot in a day, and transfer is easy. plus it doubles as a flashdrive, voice recorder, etc.
