The DSC-T1 seems to appeal to we TR junkies. (The type S is just a TR on steroids) I just wanted to know how many of us actually have the camera or are interest in it.

If anyone knows of a T1 forum anwhere could you post the URL?

Mebbe we could justify one here, the T1 and TR get along so well…

I have heard that the image quality could be better for the money you spend.  So I have been hesitant.  I have a 3MP Sony now that does the job.  Maybe if the price falls some more. :wink:

I was advised against the Sony and went with a Canon IXUS 5Mega pixel.  It certainly does a great job for its size…..

No doubt the T1 is on the expensive side however, it really boils down to what you expect/need from a point and shoot camera. I have a fun camera (T1) and a more serious one (F828) and they both serve different needs. The T1 probably isn’t the best all around camera in it’s class but it is strong in certain areas.

I think the best thing about it is the speed. With a flick of your finger, the camera is opened and powered up and ready to shoot. It has a fast startup time and good shot to shot speed. I find that I’m able to get those candid spontaneous shots much better than my previous point and shoots.

Movie mode. Sometimes a picture doesn’t do a situation justice. Sony’s 640x480 @ 30 fps MPEG2 mode is amazing. I often turn my photos into DVD slideshows and the ability to add full motion video is awesome. Quality of the video is superb due to the frame rate and it works well with other footage I capture with my DV camera.

The size is right as well. It’s slim and svelte and easily fits in your pocket. I also find that it’s built very sturdy and has that nice “feel” to it.

Obviously, the screen is nice at 2.5” and it’s high resolution giving you a good indication of what the shot really looks like. I find that other small cameras with low res screens can sometimes mislead a person. It may look like a good clean shot on the LCD but later when you look at it on a computer you see it’s blurry.

I bought my T1 because of it’s size.  My family is normally pretty bad when it comes to taking photos… we’ve been known to have two christmas’s on one film before :shock:
I’d played with a friends T1 and thought that because of the size I’d be more likely to take it with me and start taking more photos.  To that point it has happened a little, although I haven’t really done anything interesting since getting it apart from work and sleep (to pay it off!).
Of course seeing the black version on EBay aided my spending spree :oops:

gr00vy0ne, how do you compare the video quality of the T1 to that of a miniDV digicam or a DVD movie?  Sorry if that is a dumb question, I’m not a movie buff. :oops:

as i am a gadget freak myself…i am thinking of upgrading to a w1 or v1. there have been too many complaints regarding “shaky” pictures, mostly due to the fact that there is no eyehole in the t1.

Why do some adds state that the T1 is 5.1MP?

Well, obviously, a DV cam or DVD movie has technically higher resolution at 720x480 (NTSC) or 720x576 (PAL) so it should look better. I’ve merged the T1’s MPEG-2 files with DV captured video and it looks pretty good although you have to account for the slight difference in frame rate.

It’s definitely comparable but it ultimately depends on the type of scene one is filming. Also, the T1 is limited to how long you can record in the highest quality (currently 3-6 minutes for 256 and 512MB cards). At any rate, i rate the quality to be very good.

after all..it is a camera not a camcorder..i’m happy it has video recording capability.

hansenen- they probably made a mistake..the spec sheet off sonystyle.com clear states 5.0mp for the t1

nhc538 - i thoght about the w1 and the v1 as well.. though i didn’t like the location of the flash for the v1.. the fact that w1 takes supports both pro(also duo) really appealed to me. in the end, it was the size,adjustable backlight(more juice on the go) and lcd resolution of the t1 that won me over.

It isn’t the eyehole, err. viewfinder, it’s that the camera is so small that it has very little mass. Inertia will help stabilize a heavier camera. The T1 requires a little conscious effort on the part of the user.

those with t1’s.. there’s are 1300mAh batteries available(oem NP-FT1 is only 680mAh). unsure of how well it works but..
