[quote author=“Rahul”]are u looking for a slim dvd burner or even those large ugly ones will do?
Although my most recent DVDR was an overpriced internal Sony (which is solid), I’ve had good luck with Plextor in the past. They’re pretty well regarded by the pundits, too.
If your budget’s tight and you don’t need the latest and geatest, you can save some real bucks by settling for a 4x write. That’s still a full DVD in around 15 minutes. If you’re planning on doing video, write time is the fast part.
a good buy are some of the high speed burners which you can buy and then flash the firmware to make them dual layer compatible. A couple of types are like this including the 4X liteon which you can flash and it becomes it’s bigger brother the 4X dual layer burner. A friend did it to the one in his dell box and it worked fine.

thanks. i think i am in your same boat i will buy it and say why do i do that? i think i will check out the cheap ones. the sony one for $400 is just way to much (but go figure i want it)
frys of california has the plextor px-504uf 69.00 after rebate and its a 4x with no mention of flash upgrade. thinking about trying it, but shopping for a dvd burner is INSANE! the latest and greatest sony is there for about 250.00. that’s dual layer dual format and looks the best inmo but is also the most expensive in the store. after shopping i am like a deer in headlamps and dont know what to do really. hp movie writer looks nice cause it has built in analog to digital converter but is also high priced and does not appear to be dual layer (8+gig). argh….
[quote author=“TruthSeeker”]jigs, welcome back dude! We were just talking about you:
We thought you went on another lengthy excursion.
