Bought my first wireless router. Didin’t exactly go in blind - read a bunch of reviews and comparisions and actually bought the editors recommended pick from a magazine.
Going to race home tonight and setup up my conected home :D .
The plan is to setup my server as a media hub and run my whole house wirelessly. I have a couple of subnotebooks with wireless (one b/g and one b only), a server and another desktop which i will hook up. And a usb printer to share and when they finally release the apple iport express i’m getting one of those to stream music to my stereo.
I’ll get back with a review when i’m done.
OK, just quickly (full review coming after the weekend):
Awesome piece of kit. Setup took all of 5 seconds - literally. It’s got excellent range and throughput is solid, reliabe and quick. After a real fast install and no consideration paid to position i was able to get a fast reliable signal all over my house and yard.
I can safely say i’ve never installed anything simpler. It was total plug and play (work?) out of the box. With no setup required by me.

No offense, but that sounds pretty insecure. You probably don’t have WEP or WPA encryption or MAC restrictions. You probably should turn off SSID broadcast too.

Actually it has all the good stuff. WEP and all. The cool thing was it was really simple to set it up as it walks you through the security stuff and gives you an easy pass-phrase to help with the WEP keys. I was originally just going to through it on un-secured as i thought who in my area of low tech fools would have wireless…when lo and behold i detected a completely unsecured network across the road. I found i could receive “Grove Gav’s” network at a solid 11Mbs from every room in my house!

Use WPA if you can. If your WiFi card is old then you may be stuck with WEP. If you’re getting 11Mbs then you’re running /b. /g delivers 55. Might want to look at an upgrade.
