[quote author=“tifosiv122”][quote author=“TruthSeeker”]Why burn data to a DVD for backup purposes? Either throw it on an external drive or flash it baby.
Speed. The fastest flash maxes out around 9MB/sec…DVD at 16x is approx. 21MB/sec.

Sorry Flash, eat my dust:
GeneralBuffer To Host (Serial ATA) 150 MB/s (Max)
Buffer To Disk 72 MB/s (Sustained)
Carrie-anne Moss has looked better in other films, hell even Memento. The thing that really struck me about the lighting of Reloaded was how horrible all the female actors looked. They lit Monica Bellucci so that you could see every wrinkle on her face. She looks fantastic in other recent films, particularly Le Pacte des Loups. I realize she’s about 40, but that’s no excuse.

Memento didn’t do it for me, she was cut up most of the film. I was actually talking about the original Matrix, honestly, the other 2 I barely remember.
dbs - removable media. Even if you throw your drive into an enclosure, it’s still too big and heavy to just ‘pass’ on to people…or at least with DVDs you dont need to get them back (at 0.10-50 cents each)

No argument here. The writeable optical disc is going to be with us for a long time. It has too many advantages, one of which is its disposability.
I was picking on TS. Flash memory is slow and, while it will get faster, extrapolate the densities on the new Toshiba micro drive to a 10K rpm SATA or SCSI drive. I honestly think that before flash catches up to physical drives, something else will come out of the labs.

That is certainly possible, but until then I root for Flash. It might be in vain , but I am loyal til the end. :D
I have a “like new” 5.25” floppy drive I can let you have for a song…

Ah, the good old floppy floppy, the one that was actually floppy…lol. I thought the coolest thing in the world was my first 5 1/4 dual floppy drive, big and small drives in one bay…damn, that was a long time ago.

I thought I was stylin’ when I attached an external drive case and had four 360k floppies on-line at the same time. 8)
personally, i see benefits from both recordable discs and flash drives.
discs are probably great as data back-ups because they’re cheap (thinking along the lines of per disc) and flash drives are so portable and easy to use. i use it more for live data that needs editing.
