I was considering this monitor to use with my TR2.  Does anyone have any thoughts or alternative suggestions??

I realise that I lose widescreen, but hopefully the quality of the Xbrite screen will make up for it…..

Spend some time and do a little research. If the UK is anything like here, you should be able to beat Sonys price. PCMAG and other reviewers have always done a decent job of letting me know what was available and pointing me in the right direction. There are a lot of fine LCD panels out there and you can likely find a lovely 19” in the same price range.

For example, a year or so ago my LCD, a Planar, was given high marks for color resolution and accuracy, it “lost” points in the review because of viewing angle. Since I’m sitting in front of it and use it only on the PC, a wide viewing angle is incidental. I picked it up for around $550 when other units were going for $7-900.

I was on the lookout for a quality monitor to use with my Sony Vaio Desktop PC and my TR1 MP, I did think about the Xbrite 17”, but decided on the Iiyama 19” ProLite E481S. Installed it today, very happy, it’s excellent piece of kit. When it comes down to it, display area is important and the 19” screen is massive, well it is when compared with my 15” TFT and my TR! It also works very well with the TR. I bought a separate DVI-D cable to connect my desktop, for about £39, they only include an analogue cable, but I didn’t notice a difference using the DVI-D connection on the desktop (is DVI-D worth it??)

I did consider a Sony 19”, but although it was a stylish machine, Sony have quite a frame around the monitor, which did not look as nice as the Iiyama, which is just the screen with a very small frame around.

I really wanted the Iiyama 4821 19”, as the screen tilts round to portrait mode, which is nice for viewing full page documents, but the price difference wasn’t worth it.

I know the Xbrite screens look nice, but you can have a lot more screen for your money if you look elsewhere.

The Dell 2001FP is usually around $750 with coupon…its a 20” LCD display that has a 16ms response…16x12 native…I love mine, it’s the best display i’ve had.

Every connection imaginable (S-Video, RCA, etc)...PIP, USB, Tilt, rotate…etc..

I paticularly like the WebTV button.

I like that VAIO LCD as well, but it only ships with a HS series PCs in JP only. I’ve got one of the JP LCDs that came with my VAIO MX dynamo PC (PCVD-15XD3) with DVI-D connection and 4 USB ports on the stand.
As for the WebTV button, I think it was on the Microsoft keyboard not on the LCD.  :wink:
