I installed XP SP2 on my TR5, everything is normal until now. WiFi is more reliable now.
However, the comp feels a little slugish; but this can also be a false feeling!

Normally, I’d agree, but there’s been a lot of complaints on NTbugtraq about breaking changes between RC2 and RTM. I know Symantec was complaining about it.
What is RC2 and RTM?
RC2 means Release Candidate #2 and is still a beta version. RTM means Release to Manufacturing and is no longer a beta version.

I found my TR2 win XP pro (1 meg ram) also felt slow. I actually uninstalled the update from my desktop due to a couple of issues…I think I will remove it from my TR as well.
I don’t think that this windows update is ready for prime time just yet.

The RTM SP2 that started this thread or am I missing something?

No your right I was talking about the RTM verion of SP2 when I made this thread. And the RTM build of SP2 is currently out.
And for those of you who want a smaller download I present to you the express install of SP2 (strait from Microsoft)...
http://www.download.windowsupdate.com/msdownload/update/v3-19990518/cabpool/xpsp2-express_2bb70ca1c5503d32f9ab7a15d69c147e24208bde.exe
For those of you who are wondering an express install means that the file you download will go to the Microsoft site and only download the parts of SP2 that you need. A user with a fully patched system can expect roughly an 80MB download.

I ask this more out of professional curiosity than anything, but what issues did you have?

There were several issues on my desktop…notably slower overall performance (Explorer would sometimes slow to the point of locking up), Norton kept giving me a popup every 10 seconds and the occassional “BSOD”
I uninstalled SP2 and all is fine again.

I thought RTM meant that it was on the Windows Update site. Sorry, I misunderstood.

Haven’t checked the update site, but it is “official” (links posted earlier in this thread by gr00vy and Drachen)

Heres another release which names specific apps effected by the SP2 update:

Line 42: We’re sorry, but Windows XP Professional and Home are presently incompatible with SP2. Please downgrade to Dos 4. or wait until XP2.

Grabbed the complete SP2 download. Installed last night. No problems as of yet. Noticed in the prev. article that most of the incompatibility centered on servers and corp. network apps. so I’m optimistic.
Bluetooth works fine in XP native mode. Doesn’t show some services that appeard under bluespace, but applications seem to find and use them. Definately art not science…
