Definitely! I’m looking at getting one of these when it comes out. Of course, I’ll have to see if I can part with my Casio Exilim Z3 though…it’s a neat little camera that goes with me everywhere.

yeah i like the casio as well.  i have the pentax optio s but now i am all sony all the time (memory stick slot here i come) weeeeeeeeeeeeeee

looks nifty…but why did they leave one important thing out?  i hate when camera mfgs do this: manual mode. i’m sorry, there are so many times when auto settings just don’t cut it, after all, its a computer, and what do they know about CREATIVE photography.

no, manual mode and years of exp. do that for ya. so now ya got 5 megapixels, ya can do studio work with that, and no real (human) way to control the outcome “under difficult lighting conditions.”

it does look very cool though.  cool enough that i’d buy it just for that fact alone, but i doubt it can replace my nikon coolpix 4500, which must weigh as much as the tr1 and sure seems dated these days….

oh, and how small must THAT battery be!  the one thing that i will always praise nikon for with the coolpix series is that ya can get a throwaway battery anywere when ya need one.  even at an obscure boat dock in the middle of thailand. now THAT saved my hide while on a shoot of floating market.

I’m guessing here but I suspect the camera will have “some” manual modes. Many Sony cameras have some limited control over the options especially when they’re higher end models (such as this one).

I appreciate the convenience of using regular batteries but then I also know that they couldn’t make cameras as small and neat as these now because they don’t make “cheap” batteries that can power and last as long as these proprietary lithium ion batteries. All of my cameras use proprietary batteries and generally they last a really long time. My Sony F707 can last an entire day of heavy shooting (four 128MB MS worth) on a single charge and still have battery left.

180g is slightly heftier than the 146g of my current Exilim Z3. I guess I wouldn’t mind too much…i can barely feel my Z3 when it’s in my pocket anyways. My only concern with the camera is if there is an automatic lens cover. I don’t like for the lens to be exposed when the camera’s off since it increases the chance of scratching.

The T1 does look nice. I am looking to replace my FX77 with one of the new Sony cams coming out in the new year. There is already an 8 Megapixel version of the 717 coming in a month or two (is it called the 828?) and more are sure to follow.

FWIW, my opinion of Bluetooth on the FX77 is that it’s useless. I take pics at full resolution (4 MPixels) and it takes roughly 30 seconds to send one pic to my TR1. Also, you can’t simply upload the camera’s entire contents to the TR1, you have to do it pic by pic. I have the 1GB memory stick and the only solution is to just insert the MS right into the notebook. Done. Bluetooth is pointless on a digital camera.

And it took me a while before I realised that the FX77 only worked with Sony Bluetooth, and no other!

‘Nuff said, I’m waiting for the new line to come out. Anybody know of the other Sony models that will come out as well?
