As some of you might know I recently moved from NJ to MI…what a pain. Anyway, driving around my new area in MI I noticed a small store that had a sign ‘Sony Showcase’. I figured when I had a chance i’d stop in.
Today I ordered a pizza from the pizzaria next door and while waiting for them to make it I went to the Sony store. Basically its all Sony products, but it wasn’t fancy at all. I spoke to the salesman, told him I just moved into the area, and mentioned that i’ve never seen a store like his before…he told me why.
According to him, this is the only store in the country that is a Sony store not run (owned) by Sony. They only sell Sony products but are independantly owned. According to him they were ‘grandfathered-in’ because they have been in business for 20 years or something.
His prices weren’t bad either…and he had almost everything Sony in stock, including T1s and other higher end products. So, I guess thats as rare as you can get, the only non Sony owned Sony store. I got to see some things I would normally not have been able to see in person before ordering…I think I found a new place to buy my stuff…cool.
[quote author=“Drachen”]Very cool. It’s always good to find a store you trust and get personal service in. :D How’s adjusting to life in the midwest?
Horrible…it feels like everyone is a ‘Sunday Driver’, and people are used to a much much slower pace of life…i’m just not used to it. And, above and beyone it all, it’s sooo boring out here…lol.
[quote author=“OnMyWayUp”]Need to change your location banner now… it still say NJ. What is the population of the city your in…
I’m in Lansing, it’s the capital of the state…huge ‘city’ and I use the ’ ’ sarcastically. 119,000 people in the city, according to the 2000 US Census.
I moved from a town with a Pop of 34,000…but ranked the second best town in the east under 100,000 people:
I’ve lived in two ‘cities’: first is 35,500 population then I moved to another that is about half that but is right next to a group of MUCH larger cities… where my mall, movies, etc. are And hey I’m one mile from#7 on the West’s most desirable places to live…Santa Clarita.
(But i think that the population may be a little more than half of 35,000 now… I pulled that off some website statistic.)
Law School. I had a very good tech job but decided that the tech industry is too flakey and that I would constantly need to update my skills or i’d get replaced…law is a bit different.

Thomas M. Cooley Law School. I picked it because it was highly ranked (29) and ranked higher then the three NJ law schools. It is the second largest law school in the US so it offers more of a variety of subjects…something other schools couldn’t offer me.

I’m so jealous. My whole life is about trying to slow down. Life is too short to go and rush things along, IMO.

Florida is slow…move to NYC, then move back to Florida…it’ll feel like the world is in slow motion. I love Florida’s weather but I can’t stand how slow everything is…especially the old people…ahh!

That is what really sucks I love technology and knowing what is happening with it but I don’t think I would ever want a job as a programmer or something PURELY relying on technology. Maybe 50/50… the NSA, CIA? :xeno:
So you just changed your career heading out of no where? Weren’t you almost a senior programmer at your security company? Just wondering also, how old are you and do you have kids?

No I had always wanted to go to Law School, but I said if I found a decent tech job I wouldn’t…but after coming to some realizations I decided to go to school. I’m 23, no kids, no wife. Yes, I did have a high position, and prob. would have gone much further…but it was risky to say the least.
So are you just taking up a part time programming/tech job while you finish Law School? And… what level of a degree did you have in tech? Bachelors? Masters? Just curious.
