I just thought I’d post that I have successfully installed the internal bluetooth module in a Sony TR3A. Everything is the exact same as installing it in the TR1 models (as one would expect). Even got the little LED cover with the bluetooth logo so everything looks factory installed (that and I’m a nitpicker).
It’s nice having a wireless mouse that I don’t have to plug an adapter into.
And I’d just like to thank groovyone for the guide on how to do it (I probably would never had figured it out otherwise).
[quote author=“dbs”][quote author=“VAIO Jet”]I did use the Bluespace software that came with the dongle and it worked to some degree. I have since switched to Widcomm software which is more flexible but still has some limitations on the TR.
So the Sony software didn’t know the difference between the dongle and the internal module?
What advantages, additional features, do you get with the Widcom vs Bluespace?
The Widcomm software has been able to detect devices that Bluespace couldn’t (such as a headset, but it’s still a little temperamental). I have also had no trouble syncing my Clies (NX60 and TH55) with the Widcomm software. Be prepared though, syncing with BT is much slower than the hard-wired USB connection.

It’s the headset and voice channels from my phone that interest me. When you say “tempermental” are you being kind? I’d like to use the headset on the TR3 and be able to answer the phone and talk via the TR/headset.
The headset (Jabra BT) wouldn’t work at all with Bluespace. It started working with Widcomm, but then wouldn’t connect. I have stayed with the Widcomm software because it is more flexible, but I can’t guarantee it will work any better for your phone. You might check out this site for some info: http://www.jonsguides.com/bluetooth/
Good luck.

<sigh> I know. Checked that site among others. I could never get a definative go on the Widcom/Jabra/TR question. After installing the internal BT I just installed BS (how appropriate).
For a standard (in theory) that holds such promise, it’s the poorest industry-wide implementation I’ve seen since the early days when IBM ruled. Back then, at least, there was a universal criteria; would it run IBM PC DOS. Sony should be setting the standard, not bastardizing it. <rant over>
Anyone having USB problems after internal BTooth upgrade? I’ve noticed that several USB devices (HD, Flash Drive, HASP Keys) randomly work/don’t work. I can see in device manager that USB Mass Storage does not show up when a drive is plugged in. Not a clue why….anyone have similar, or an idea?
Did anyone in the uk find out where to get the respective bluetooth parts? I know this is a long shot as UK spec comes with bluetooth, but us ebay buyers don’t want to feel left out the loop!!
Ok as no-one seems to know if/where to get the bluetooth card in the UK would anyone of you guys be willing to buy and ship one to me? I might also get the a/b/g card while at it to save shipping costs (thinking out loud now!)

Matt, I would *expect* to find the BT module and cable in Sony stock where the shipped units include it. What I find perverse is that here in the US where it isn’t technically available you can purchase not only the module and cable, but even the TR specific lens assembly. Go figure.
Go find a pretty girl working in a Sony shop and see if she can’t find the part numbers for you. She might not have a clue, but the guy in parts she talks to will bend over backwards.
Yeah I’m going to ask next time I’m in town, but you would have thought that there would be an equivalent uk site where you could order the parts from, but that seems to be a USA only thing :(

We’re big on mail-order here. Sears&Roebuck; started it…
