I know someone in this forum posted the ISO they recieved from Hitachi for a hard drive performance checker.  I was at first interested because it would allow me to check backup hard drives to make sure they arent about to go or anything, but now I am unfortunately beginning to think that my Type S’s hard drive may be having problems.  Anyone have it?  I just know that the webiste that this on guy had it posted on is down and has been for weeks.  THANX.  :D

You can download the Hitachi Drive Fitness Test ISO directly from Hitachi:

This assumes your Type S actually has a Hitachi hard disk (most seem to do). For people with TRs with Hitachi drives, you can also download this to check the “fitness” of your drive.

Also SMART is enabled on most of these drives so you can use and SMART capable software to monitor your drive from within Windows.

Thanks but I don’t think this was the one if it is only meant for Hitachi drives.  The guy at Best Buy said he was using some great software from Hitachi but he was using it on my Toshiba equipped TR.  But i will still check the link out.  Thanks

About SMART, it doesn’t seem to work that great.  There is always some error that it can’t check the disk, or something.  So I really would like the Hitachi software which worked quickly and stops right when it is detected that there is an error with your hard drive.

I actually just ran it and also stated this in the other semi-related post.  It worked, i think just as well except for not picking up the cache size of the Toshiba drive.  “Exerciser” check and default sector check worked fine and reported back not problems. YAY
