And, yes, I think video would add a new realm to talking and people would use it often.
In almost every sci-fi movie phones have video…it just seems right, and with technology that we know is available…its only a matter of time.
Erik
What have you done with tifosiv122? You are starting to sound like me. This is not realism! Anyways, I have to side with dbs and Drachen on this one. Sorry. As optimistic as I am, I do not see videophones being used as a ‘face-to-face’ encounter very well. You cannot multitask as Drachen mentioned. Forget driving while talking. I say it would be a passing ‘fad’ at best.
Hey, just because we have cordless phones in existance doesnt mean everyone uses them all the time…I use a corded phone sometimes. I am not saying all cell phone users will always use videophone…i’m just saying it will be available and widespread very soon…

Aren’t all handests cordless unless you’re char… oh… You mean like a landline phone? Those were really big and you can’t get calls away from the house, or even outside it. Bah. The only place I use one of those is my office, and there it’s basically an intercom.

Lol, gotta have fax machines. Anyway, TiVo requires a phone line (land-line) so I need to keep paying Ma-Bell.

Fax machines are my other big technological pet peeve. 14.4k modems? The really sad part is that I have a land line too, although strictly for backup in case my cable modem goes down. It’s about time I dump it, to be honest. I don’t think I’ve used it in 6 months.

In those situations I use my Cell to Laptop connection…or PDA to Cell connection…dial-up is the devil, lol.

No kidding! I don’t know whats worse, having to use dial up, or a bunch of loose change in my pocket. Can’t we just go 100% cashless? Or at least ban coins and round everything to the nearest dollar? I’d love to do the next “Friday Poll” on this. Let’s throw in a few other nuances.

I never carry around change. As soon as I get home I dump it in a 5 Gallon Jug. After 3 Months I cash it in and get around $100-150 from Coinstar type machines…
