Anywho..it’s been a month, and I"m back, if anybody cared.

But as for the topic…interesting! They’re promising a TR-similar laptop with a processor speed of2x the current TR for about 1/2 the price.  I wonder if it’s sony “quality” *cough cough*.  Looks about the same, and if I were on a budget, would be #1 on my list.

I have seen Avaratec’s stuff before.  I have not seen how they hold up, but I admire the effort they make to offer good performance for budget minded users.

specs don’t look bad at all…i too, wonder about the quality.

i read a user review who didn’t like the keyboard feel, but otherwise had no other complaints with this.

i compare this more towards the s-series than the tr (size, processor, weight, etc.)

I’ve seen this thing in person and it’s definitely not as “nice” as the Sony products. It is however a competent system and is good for someone on a budget. I know that screen isn’t that great and the battery life leaves you wanting.

welcome back…

i know two people with avertec (not the one shown here).  They both like it and I think it’s nice.  But, i believe they have some heating issues as with all amd products.  as for reliablity, i’ll ask my friend when i see him about it.

btw, i think it’s cool that avertec offers a remote for their 6200 model.  sony wouldn’t do such a thing like that without charging you for another limb HAHHA

Sony’s larger notebook models (the ones with TV features) do come with a remote. And Sony charges you an arm and a leg for everything they sell… :wink:

I wouldn’t give up my TR but, as you said, on a budget it’d be a fine solution. Three-quarters of the TR at half the price. While I don’t take their words as golden, over the years I’ve found PCMag to be pretty reliable so thier Editors Choice is a plus. Have to wonder how it would hold up—but then, I’m wondering the same thing about my TR. :?

Nothing specific and no indications of any problem. Just that this thing will be getting a lot of use and packed around a lot. Not a worry, just a wonder.
