Can you explain how to upload pics to your site? I want to show a couple of things, and can’t work out how to do it.

I believe that to include images in your posts you need to have them on your own webspace and then link to them using the [img] tag in you post. Take a look at the bbcode tutorial for more information. Most internet serivce providers give you some free webspace with your account - take a look at your isp’s help pages for how to use it.
