I really like the way MSN Messenger alerts me when I have a new message in my Hotmail inbox.  I’m wondering if anyone can recommend a program that produces the same kind of results but will allow you to customize accounts that need to be checked and things of that nature.  Just something simple to tell me when I’ve got new mail.

I’m currently using Mozilla Thunderbird for handling email, and it presents a nice “You’ve Got Mail” alert in the bottom right corner whenever I get mail.  The problem is that I have to keep the application open at all times, and it occupies space in my start bar.  Something that runs in the system tray would be preferrable.  Just for the record, I’m not being lazy…I’ve looked around, but I can’t seem to find anything trustworthy.  A recommendation from a fellow member of TR World would be much appreciated.

So…any suggestions?

There is something called HideOE. It hides outlook express to the system tray and alerts (in the bottom right corner) that you have mail for any account in your outlook express.

Its freeware, not sure the site, do a quick google.

i actually use MAILCALL to pre-screen my email before downloading into netscape.  i have several email accounts that funnel down into one or two computers and this program works quite well to manipulate all the accounts.  lets you view full headers in text, even delete emails.  nice way to get rid of spam and/or viral email before it hits your real inbox.  or maybe i’m just over doing it.  here’s a link to an updated version.  going to check it out myself.

Thanks for the responses.  I’ve tried a couple of programs out, but they’re either too much or too little.  I even tried using Smartbar XP to check my mail, but was unimpressed.  What would be nice would be a Thunderbird extension that would allow you to minimize it to the system tray.

I just tried eprompter and so far it is working great. I use it to check my 6 different email boxes all at once. You can download it from CNET.com.
