TruthSeeker: Needing two systems really depends on what “do it all” means. With the way laptop hardware is going, I’d be hard pressed to find an application that a high-end S-seires or 12-inch PowerBook can’t really handle. Sure you’ll run into problems with complex CAD or running Doom 3 at highest quality, but in general they are almost equal to a desktop. It’s the extra cost combined with the fact that most people really don’t need all that power to do what they need on the road. (This last statement could be another interesting rant on its own.) I runtwo because I am a big gamer and I like toys.

I’ve said on multiple occasions that if the U70 was reasonably priced, I’d seriously consider getting one. My computing requirements are pretty unique, and are well-suited to the U. I use my TR mainly for web surfing while commuting and doing some network checking. My desktop handles everything else. I just think it’s a product in a niche and form factor that’s a proven loser and should not be released by Sony in the US.

I’m starting to see your point on the U series, Drachen.  As much as it would be a great fit for what I do, it would not be smart for Sony to bring it here because not everyone is like me.  Too bad. :(

Well are u serious enough about it to consider importing it?  Although there are the fee’s you have to pay…sorta sux..but w/e… they are somewhat nominal however arent they?  :?

I thought about it, but the value / hassle ratio that I live by tells me ‘no’.  I have about a tenth of the knowledge that some of the geeks here have.  Importing from a cost standpoint isn’t so bad as dealing with japanese drivers and psuedo-english systems.  Troubleshooting is sometimes hard enough for me on the english versions.  Then again, most of the time I break my own stuff because I like to tinker. :wink:

If they brought the U series to the U.S. with a full warranty and full english specs, I would buy it without question or doubt.  The same goes for the OQO, if they ever really decide to sell it instead of teasing us with promises. :x

Learn some Japanese… :wink:  I am… Once I graduate from highschool/university I’m off to Todai in Tokyo…   Yea right I wish…(Todai is Japan’s Oxford in a sense…specifically for government positions, etc.)

I just don’t know if I really need the portability THAT much..aside from carrying 10lbs PLUS everything else in my backpack… ...OK…maybe another 15.4”
widescreen :wink:  but I love the portability of my TR and the S series’.  But I don’t really NEED it…hmm… difficult decision…PLUS… most 15.4” widescreen range notebooks are $200-$350 cheaper than the same specification equivalent TR and S.  Or the ones I’m looking at at least.

Truth: The OQO looks AWESOME as an “underpowered laptop/overlypowered handheld”... I’d love one of those…but I don’t need it…too bad..

Most notebooks are cheaper then the TR and the S, not only are you taking a hit because its a notebook, but even more so because its a sub-notebook. For 1/3 the cost you could get a similar desktop (maybe less).
