I really want to upgrade my 3 year old 15” LCD.  Then I read articles like this:

I think pretty much perfect time for me… Right around Christmas :drool:  That means holiday sales and Christmas time presents…all of which is straight up cash…YEAH!!! 
I’m definitely not an expert at sales or market research but, is it that important?  It may be worth it too hold off for at least a couple more months… I know,...it is hard…but you may end up being much happier at the end.    Or shop from someplace that has an extended return time frame.  :wink:

I know, I know.  If “now” was always the best time to buy, I would constantly be broke and happy at the same time.

Have you checked out grafic cards lately.  I went to my local bestbuy and they only had like two type of very old low end cards. 

Doom 3 and HL2 made all the gamers buy up the cards.  But, you think these companies would captilize on this. Its funny cause one of the most demanding is the x800 ati which cost about $100 more than what the nvidia 6800 can due. 

And a recent test..sorry I don’t have the link at this time showed nvidia smoked I mean smoked the the ati card.

I am wondering because it was “made to play on nvidia.”  will see how the ati do against nvidia on hl2 claiming the play best on there cards.  And if that is the case I might have to buy two cards. lol

LCDs are dropping heavily, but it still has not hit rock bottom yet.

For example, last month my friend bought the Dell 20” LCD for $850 shipped…I got mine last week for $710 shipped…same LCD. I’m sure it will drop more…but I wanted it now, lol.

Expect this christmas to have very cheap LCDs, that, IMO, is the best time to buy. (Holds true with most computer stuff as well)

Chris687: In one of the wonders of modern marketing, each mega-sequel’s developer allied with a different graphics chipmaker. Carmak and id wen’t with nVidia, probably because of their superior support of OpenGL, while Valve made a deal with ATi. In non-cherrypicked gaming the two cards are very close to each other performance-wise.

The obvious solution to the dilemma is to buy one of those dual-video card Alienware systems and get one of each card.
