Ram upgarde question

Hey guys,

I’ve been reading this board for quite some time now… I actually purchased my TR3A back in March when i saw all the great reviews on this site. now i’ve finally decided to join after I saw “nsx” post regarding $99 kingston 512mb ram. 

anywhoo… It arrived today (I was amazed that I received it today since I placed the order yesterday) after installing it, checking Properties under my computer it tells me that i have 0.99GB of RAM.  I was just wondering if this was normal or if i did somehting wrong when installing it >=(. 

Also I’m soooo tempted to install bluetooth after I saw Gr00vy0nes review, but im afraid i will mess it up and void my 3 year warranty with best buy…. ::sigh:: (for the guys who actually installed it, was it worth it and is it hard to do?)  Thanks!!

This is normal. Some memory is allocated to the graphics adaptor.

It’s not hard to do…but that’s relative. Also, whether or not it’s worth to do depends on how much you use Bluetooth. I use it nearly everyday so it’s been extremely worthwhile. However, if you’re not really into Bluetooth or just want to dabble then it may not be worth your time.

Im want to upgrade my RAM on my TR5, however I cannot benefit from the Kingston price here in the UK.

Im a bit new to all this, so what should I search for on ebay? ‘vaio ram’ or ‘sony ram’ etc

Does it have to be made by sony? I guess ram isnt universal? Should I search by Sony serial number? Is sony ram the same for all notebooks?

Sorry to be asking dumb questions!

1GB = 1024MB

According to the sony system profiler, I have 1020MB of ram, thats why it is .99GB

(if it isn’t the shared video memory, but then it would be 1024-64=960/1024=.937GB, so maybe not)

The TR dynamically allocates shared video memory starting at 4mb.  As the system needs, it will ramp that number up as high as 64mb.
