Have a 1 year old TR-1A and I’ve held off on a WIFI to G and Bluetooth internal upgrades because I have heard about a possible PCI internal upgrade card similar to this

Any updates on this?  Sure would make upgrading easier…

There aren’t any current products that have the latest wifi and bluetooth parts. Intel is supposed to come out with one AFTER they release their A/B/G part. So, look for it possibly next year…assuming they still want to do Bluetooth and not their own spec like USB to Go or some other spec.

I thought Intel was dumping BT in favor of their upcoming wireless USB spec.

Allegedly, the BT is still in the roadmap…but we all know that’s subject to change depending on how well wireless usb does in the market. BT still seems to alive and kicking and it’s still pretty popular outside the US so Intel probably doesn’t want to abandon Europe and Asia by ignoring BT.

So as far as Bluetooth between a cell phone and TR, how exactly does a laptop connect through it?  Especially with the new EDGE connectivity…I am LOVING the Sony Ericsson s710i with Bluetooth, storage card abilities, and EDGE…  But anyway…will it still actually “dial-up” or will it be closer to a direct link to the network like DSL?  At speeds rivaling many DSL providers… it just doesnt seem like it would dial-up as a stardard dial-up service…

And also…how compatible does this sound:
1)Buy a Sony Ericsson T616 to run on a GSM network through T-Mobile (Bluetooth and built-in modem)
2)Once the s710i is released buy it and transfer the GSM chips] between phones… (No problem right…  :?...same frequencies and all..but how do u unlock the phones… :? )
3) All the while using a built-in Bluetooth chip as done with your website demonstration.

Buy an unlocked S710a from a company like Expansys . It will already be unlocked and you can just put your current SIM in it. EDGE will still be dial-up as far as your TR goes. It’s just faster than GPRS.

Definitely faster 240kbps downstream and 120 up….

Depends on the phone and who you bought it from. AT&T is extremely bad about giving the unlock codes to people, but T-Mobile will generally give it to you after a few months on their service, usually if you say you are travelling to Europe.

O…you have to be given an unlock code?  You can’t just find it out by the product number or by some minor hack thing… or BIOS reset?

Depends on the phone. Some phones need specialized equipment for flashing (like SE) others just need a serial cable. There are a few places that will unlock phones for you, but I don’t know of many offhand.

The card you referenced is for desktop PC’s PCI buss, you want PC Card(PCMCIA)
