I just finished my third installation of an internal BT module on a TR and for the first time I have a problem, the HW installation was very easy (thanks to grOOvyOne for the tutorial). The problem lies in the driver installation with the OS in spanish, in the FTP provided you can find the software files for english, french and german, inside the UK file there are options for more european languages but not Spanish.

The problem is the driver install applies an OS patch (Q323183 Bluetooth Patch) which in language dependent, for English the file is in drivers\QFE and the file is q323183_wxp_sp2_x86_enu.exe, it seems I need q323183_wxp_sp2_x86_esn.exe but it is only available from Microsoft to OEMs.

I looked for the software in the Latin American Site but since no models in LA have Bluetooth they don’t have the file, I also tried the Spain support site but asks for serial number of the machine to enter.

The only thing I can think of is that this patch has to be inside the Microsoft Software disc that came with the Microsoft BT Mouse, unfortunately I no longer have the disc since I used Bluespace to pair it with my TR.

If anyone has the disc, can you check if this file is available on the CD? Any other suggestions will be appreciated

Never mind my previous post, I registered at oem.microsoft.com and was able to download the file (By the way it is available for over 30 languages) , I will try the install tomorrow.

I will post the results to help others who want to install the internal BT module on OS languages not included in the original file.

***UPDATE***

I just finished doing the install, everything OK, if you want to upgrade your TR and your OS language is other than English, French, German or italian, just register at oem.microsoft.com and download the Bluetooth patch in your language, then follow gr00vy0ne guidelines. during the driver install is going to ask you for the downloaded file.  :D

I called Sony Canada for the bluetooth module and they were asking for $189 CDN (143 USD)  :shock:

I used this very cool walkthrough recently for my BT.  Everything is working great.  I noticed I had a few snags along the way that other people were having too.  Thought I’d share:

Before starting with hardware, download BT software AND KCAP.EXE.

Move both KCAP.EXE and SONY.PAC to a temp directory.  To open SONY.PAC, from the run command line type, “c:\temp\kcap.exe sony.pac c:\temp\”  This worked for me.  Had to add the path for kcap.exe.

When opening computer removing 13 screws, one of them is inside the little compartment area for the RAM.

The daughter board, where you add the bluetooth, is NOT in the guts of the computer.  It is actually attached UNDER the top plate of the computer - the big piece that surrounds your keyboard.

I think that’s it.  Great walkthrough!

no it doesn’t..adding bt its nont an “authorized upgrade” like ie. memory upgrade. it will void your warranty with sony.

The part number is x46261645.  Have it on mine - looks great.  It comes with an adhesive back, you just peel off the protective paper and stick it on.  When you pull off the old one (just slowly pull it off - on there by adhesive) there will also be two paper thin little bridges stuck behind there (Like it says in the discussion on this).  Just carefully pull those off and put them on the new one before sticking it on.  I actually don’t think you need to do this - The little bridges I believe are just part of the manufacturing and look totally superflous, but who wants to risk it…

Yes, the lens has the bluetooth logo followed by bluetoth, as: # BLUETOOTH

Given that I may someday have to undo it, I’ve decided not to install the lens. *I* know what the blue light means and, as someone previously said, it adds a touch of mystery to the front panel.

Did anyone ever try the software shipped with the sony bluetooth dongle on the internal mod?

I did use the Bluespace software that came with the dongle and it worked to some degree.  I have since switched to Widcomm software which is more flexible but still has some limitations on the TR.

So the Sony software didn’t know the difference between the dongle and the internal module?

What advantages, additional features, do you get with the Widcom vs Bluespace?
