the firmware can be found by navigating to tr1 model from this page: and then clicking the Drivers and Updates button. groovee, if you are not being let in cause you are NON european, what is that anyway, then you should contact the ACLU in America and sue Sony’s a**. oh, were was i…
yeah, click on that and you will see the update : 9/5/2003 CD-RW Firmware This utility will update the Matsushita® UJDA745 DVD/CD-RW Drive Firmware to improve the drive’s reliability when burning CD media.
MS-401010C02HL03US.EXE
clicking on that will put you in the software agreement stream of things. you find out there that it’s version 1.01. but note the warning: This utility is only for use with Sony® VAIO® computer systems sold in the United States, Canada or Latin America.
groovey. sue them.
if you are using DAP, turn it off. sony has some sorta security thing going on here…hidden urls, etc. and DAP can’t deal.
repeat the above steps about 10 times, cause the sony support site s**** and hardly ever works.
if that does not work, hack into the sony website using an ftp program and use this url: ftp://ftp.ita.sel.sony.com/ccpg/pc/MS-401010C02HL03US.EXE
(did they really think they could stop this riffraff from getting in?)
okay, once ya got the file, just run it. come on, ya only live once. but make sure you have a replacement return policy with your purchase point. what, bought it from Sony? Buddha help ya then.
seriously, the help popup tells you that you will be prompted if the update is not needed. and guess what? IT’S NOT!!!!
so what is this? what’s it for? I bought my sony in early august, so it must be one of the oldest ones out there, and it’s already up to date. it remains just another sony development mystery.
ps.I’ve downloaded and tried all the other updates on the update page, and they all seem to have no effect whatsoever on my tr1a, which is really good news.
