Hi all, I’ve just become a TR2 owner as well but as far as I know after some searching on this messageboard I am the first one to have the TR2C, the Chinese edition! (Well…. at least over here… )

Reason, I’m living in Europe and found the laptop for absolute bargainprice (compared to Europe where the ‘old’ TR1 already costs around 2450 euros). It’s 16880 which is 1680 euros and the specs are P-M 1ghz, 512mb, 40gb. Only difference with US/Japan is onboard bluetooth? There are also 3 recovery discs delivered with it and on CD3 are all the drivers and programs (some in Chinese).

Now my questions

I’ve already did a clean install with my own English Win XP Pro and got everything working also the Eyemotion cam (I read some had problems with that) but the ‘hotkey’ for Capture is not working, volume and zoom are working correctly.

Also some programs are not English, also Network Smart Capture which is quite a pity, is it possible to buy the English version of the program somewhere?

Second Hardware info keps on saying something about Universal Serial Bus (USB) controller but there’s no support/driver on the recovery disk somehow…

i bought the tr2c as well in china 2 weeks ago when i was over there. i paid 17000 rmb for it with bluetooth dongle usb a original carry bag from sony and a mini optical mouse. its true its not out here in germany yet. i am normally living in new zealand but originally from germany.
i bought it in shanghai at the pchome center.
my system is still in chinese. i am not sure if you have solved the problems already but u might notice that your battery life is gone after your update to win xp in eng. the reason is that the sony utilities are all in chinese and not available for download in english. without powerpanel and these stuff, the battery life shrinks to around 3 hours. i am still searching for someone who can kindly provide these utilities in english.

but the price is ok. i am still sorting everything out also the usb driver etc.

have u downloaded the asus utility for the 802.11b intel 2100 mini pci card yet? works great but will update to a 11g card soon.

still searching for more ram to get the 1gb full but the 172 pin micro ddr is hard to get in 512mb here in germany. sony in china uses original infineon ddr which is great.

if you found some untilities in english, please let me know.

I’ve got everything working now, except for the Capture button.
This because I only have got the program in Chinese and it can’t install on my English XP Pro.

By the way not all the utilities are in Chinese.
E.g. Hotkeys, Sony Notebook setup and some more are in English on recovery disk 3 (including all the drivers!).

My battery life is now about 4 hours on brightness medium (4 of 8 ) when surfing, listening MP3, doing some text stuff.

What about this Asus utility? Please explain, my wireless works fine atm.

also there are some wallpapers and newer drivers I found, and a firmware update.
