I am new here and I would like to thank many of you who had helped me in deciding between the TR and the S series. I did manage to pick up a new TR3AP1 after class yesterday and it is now charging.
I had to spend a lot of time updating many window updates and vaio updates. I did not do all the updates from vaio site yet though. Does anyone of you know that if every update is necessary?
Also, how lond did you most of you left your brand new battery charging for the very first time. It does not say in the manual if you have to charge it for extended time for the very first time. I recall for most cell phone batteries and my old notebook it required to keep the new battery charging longer (12hrs) rather than the normal charge time. I guese I just can’t wait to bring it out for the very first time.
TAZ, welcome to the forum! You do not need to charge the battery for any extended amount of time. In fact, go ahead and fire it up while it is charging. The Lithium Ion in your TR is perty smart.
I bought my TR from a local store and the lady told me charge for 10 hours. She doesn’t look like the techie kind ... thus believe at your own risk.
actually, the laptop should automatically cut off the charging when the battery is full. In other words, it shd be quite safe to “overcharged” your TR.
When I got mine I called up Sony to ask how long to charge it, there was no ‘official’ time, he said charge it overnight, it will stop when its full, I said ok.

Yep. I’m kid of slap-happy after trying to get PearPC networking to work last night and I’m desperatly trying to avoid retrofitting some ASP classic code written shortly after man discovered fire for our German office.

well like deathstar said,
almost all notebooks/handphones has circuit to cut off charging when batt is full. Charging it 12 hrs doesn;t make any sense at all, if the batt indicator stop blinking, it’s full.. nothing more and nothing less.
Empty to full charge should take more than 4 hrs isn’t it?
Thank you all very much. I ended up leaving my TR at home today but I did manage to get a friend of mine that lives in the US to order a case for me. Oh !! sorry, I live in Canada and most of you knows that we get stuck with lower Sony models here and even unavailable products such as the case.
Tomorrow will be my first day out with the TR and I am so looking forward to it. It is almost like being a kid again anticipating for the next morning just like Christmas day.
I guess my next purchase would be an additional 512mb ram. Anyhoo, been great at this forum unlike many other rude forums. I had really enjoyed reading all of the posts and useful tips and infos.
