This is one happy guy here, Ive just picked up my Sony Vaio TR5MP and its great.  :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

I had a quick encounter with the TR3A in the USA last month but now I have this I am in love LOL

I only paid £1150 and I just sold my very old Tosh Portege for £220 making this about £950!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I got it off ebay, Im a regular on there and as with all expensive or electronic purchases I drove 2 hours to pick it up and check it over rather than send a thousand pounds through paypal and hope for the best!!

Its brand new, still had the Sony seal on the box and it even smells new!

Im glad to be joining your club and look forward to all your knowledge and insight into this great series from the TR1 onwards!

I am just finding my way around this beauty. I had been reading about the need to make recovery disks so on the way home with the vaio I bought some recordable disks….onny find that Sony include them in the box, typical Sony….will they ever make a universal product?!? that doesnt have different components per country?

How many of you make use of the vaio updates page? It is listing a few updates - do you all bother to download and stay up to date with them?

Yeah, that one caught me out as well! In anticipation of the delivery of my TR5MP I toddled off and got *nine* labeled CDR’s ready to make those confounded backups only to find that Sony felt we europeans trustworthy enough to be given the two official restore DVD’s :wink:

Boy, we really get the shaft here in the States.  Does Sony think that Americans are less tech minded?

They’ve got you burning and lableing CD’s with the machine fresh out of the box. Then, consider, for a feature that’s not available in the US Market: Sony parts carries the bluetooth module, the custom RF connector and, the clincher, the TR bluetooth lens assembly.

Sony’s secret marketing plan: Take something out, tell the Yankees they can’t have it, then sell them the parts, at a premium price, to put it back in…

:D sonypc100- Congrats, I felt the same way when my baby arrived tr3…I still love her.  I just ordered a new case to spice things up a little bit.

Im still playing around and downloading things etc, you all say that you remove alot of the preloaded Sony stuff, what is the biggest file size thats a waste of time that you would recommend removing?

congrats on that rich!  looks grand.  I am in the market for a DVD writer so I would like to hear how yours works. Can’t decide whether to go interenal, external, or perhaps get a dvdcamcorder if that also burns DVDs…

suggestions for crap to remove:
SonicStage and anything that sony puts on for media creation/management.  EXCEPT for DV-GATE, you might need that.  For media organization I recommend IMATCH.  It’s a great DB for media and cheap, with great support. The only prob with it right now is that it does not support gif format due to license/patent issue. But that’s over this month, so a future update to Imatch will fix that.  For all the other media manipulation, well, you get what you pay for and the free Sony stuff just **bleeps**.

Jiggy, I would go external. Thats what I did. Much faster and cheaper. I got a NEC 2500A 8X DVD - and + for $97 in an external case. My Toshiba laptop has a built in DVD burner and it gets SUPER hot when burning. Not sure how hot the TR’s get.

And a BIG Congratulations to you, SonyPC100!!! 

That’s a terrific deal! I’m glad to see a fellow ebayer make the best of his buyer skills ... and put an image back to the ebay deals. I’m envious of your fantastic find and I never would’ve dreamed you could get a TR5 for this grand price still sealed in box!!! I think I’ve just about seen everything now.

I know I stil cant believe the price….in the last 8 seconds i put a bid in upto £1275.77 as it was at £1150 and I thought there might be a few sniper bids around. I was mega shocked when it then stopped at 1170.

Then the usual worry of the seller only has 15 feedbacks, what if its stolen or broke or damaged etc

So went at met the guy, he explained where it had come from why it was for sale etc, saw the original docs, box was sealed and here I am typing on it now.

I would of been gutted if I was the seller and it went so low, I was on Tottenham Court Road in London last week and nearly bought one for £1588 which was the lowest price I could find.

Anyway thanks again for all the messages,
