I own a TR2AP.  I recently purchased Acronis True Image, based on some recommendations I read on this board, in order to create backup images of my hard drives.  When I tried to create my first backup, I got a message saying that the disk “contains an unsupported structure.”  I searched the Acronis help files, but could find nothing on this.  Any idea what is going on and how I can correct it?

It may be trying to backup the special 5GB partition used by Sony’s recovery software. If you just backup the C: partition itself (before you install any other software) then you can have a clean image of the installation and you won’t have to use that 5GB partition. Also, the recovery from an Acronis C: image is a lot faster than running the Sony restoration.

Thanks for the reply.  I’ve had my TR since December, so I’ve already installed quite a bit of software.  Acronis doesn’t seem to give me the option of backing up just the C: partition anyway.  Any other thoughts?

That’s really strange. Acronis is all about backing up partitions. Which version are you running? If you have version 7 then you would see this screen which clearly shows that you can backup partitions.

Here I have 3 partitions. 2 regular ones and one Acronis created secure zone (which has a copy of the software so that I don’t need to carry the boot cd around).

This time when I started Acronis to check the version I got an error message right away.

E000101F4: Acronis True Image has detected unsopported hard disk drives.  Acronis True Image does not support Windows Dynamic Disks, EZ-Drives, etc.

This is the first time I’ve gotten this message.  Before I could get to the screen you show in your post, but I could not select my internal drives (I could select my Maxtor external drive, which is firewired in).  Now when I try to start Create Image or Disk Clone, it won’t let me get past the above error message to that screen.  Frustrating.

I probably should be contacting Acronis customer support, but I’m heading out of town tomorrow, and I’d love to get this backed up this weekend before I go.  Thanks again for the help.  Any other thoughts?

The thing is that Acronis True Image doesn’t support Windows dynamic disks. It can wark only with basic disks. Support for dynamic disks will be available in future versions of Acronis True Image.

So how is Acronis working for some of you?  I’m assuming anyone who has a TR has the same kind of hard disks installed.  I didn’t do anything special to mine to make them dynamic vs. basic.

Mine works perfectly fine…infact I switched over from drive image 2002 to true image since drive image couldn’t make the image from within windows and if I asked it to boot into DOS it popped some error. The only thing I did was do a clean install of windows xp and then make the image.
