Sometimes I have to “thump” the touchpad two or three times to get an “enter” other times I’ll be mousing accross the screen and it will decide to select a link I’m passing over.

I refuse to discuss my uncanny ability to brush the pad with my thumb while typing, thus creating very interesting documents.

Those kind of things happen quite often with me i.e. just moving the mouse around and for no reason it will click at some point. I’ve also had problems like the thing almost freezing up and me having to wait for a few secs for things to get back to normal before I could start using it once again (these kind of things happen even during times when no app is starting up in the background…ne ways with the 1 gig ram that too should not matter much)

Glad to know it’s “normal”, I’d hate to have to send it back. I’ve had the “no response” thing a few times; ended up with two or three instances of the application I was trying to run. (usually IE)

I’ve heard that WinXP really likes 1gb ram and performs a bit better. I’m going to hit the tweek sites and touch up the registry a bit. There’s one that forces XP to keep a bit more of itself in memory, one that speeds up boot and one that cleans up the drive on shutdown.

I installed a RAMdrive and it seems to speed up IE a bit.

Yeah, the touchpad’s locking up sucks sometimes.  It happened while trying to bid on an ebay item with about 20 seconds left.  Gah!  It woke up just in time, though. :D

Have you tried it with success?

Seems like there were one or two that told XP to keep all but a small amount in RAM, but if memory was needed for something like Photoshop, to release and cache. It’s been awhile…

I use this registry setting on both my PC & TR, but I don’t notice any performance differences (faster or slower).

I think the effect of tweaks is cumulative and, frankly I don’t think a human could sense a 1-3% change. Still, in a notebook app, reduced disk access might impact battery life more than performance.
