I can see one design change that would make me sell mine tmrw. 

This machine clearly is better for me than all the tablet PCs I have seen, but it would so be stepped up if they made the monitor swivel around and fold over the keyboard and be a touchscreen (or any other touchscreen configuration).  Oh my god that would be sick.  I mean, if you could just browse the net with click on the screen and not have the keyboard out, they it would add a whole new dimension to the slickest unit out before.  A stylus maybe stowed somewhere. 

I would have to get that.

Toshiba makes a model that has this design, though I like the TR better. Best Buy had a few of these on display, but people always ended up breaking the screen hinge.

I wrote a stat tracking program for Michigan State Basketball.  We used all the different Tablets, the two Protege’s the Acer, the Gateway, and the HP/IPAQ.  The Protege is TOO thick and heavy for use as a tablet, it’s defienately geared towards more of a bonus feature to a very nice laptop.

The best was without a doubt the HP tablet, as the keyboard actually detached and made the tablet VERY thin (with OK weight).

The important thing to realize when having a Tablet, the weight is NOT that important (i mean within reason), but the thickness of the device is EXTREMELY important.

What i’m trying to get at, is that althought it would be neat to see the TR go tablet, the TR itself is too thick. 

What we really need is the slit opening for the TR, like the MACs, not the crappy ass TRAy.

Have any of you tablet heads checked out the U70 VAIO?  All it really needs is Bluetooth and longer battery life and you’re set.  I might want the screen to be a bit bigger, but this little Win XP wonder is pretty state of the art.

I was thinking the same when i was surfing the web in my bed this morning ! Another cool option would be to rotate the screen (à la U50/70) It would be easier to read long webpages but not that handy since the TR base is quite heavy when you set it in “portrait” mode (using one hand to hold the base and the other to hold the screen) ... On my desktops, i can rotate the screen with one touch using latest Forceware drivers, although it’s not useful at all. Maybe someone knows how to have this function with our 855GM card ?

That would be monster cool, but I do not think it can be done. :(

I’ve said it before and i’ll say it again, tablets, as they are now, are simply a waste, its technology gone bad. Hopefully the next revision will be worth buying.

There is no doubt that tablets are still new and are in need of developing.  This is perhaps why Sony has been so quiet in this arena.  The concept is too good to give up on.  I hope PC makers hang on long enough.  I understand sales are slumping. :(
