just checked the web today http://vaio-online.sony.com/sg/vaio/ and saw TR5GP is now available in Singapore. Price around U$ 2,100 incl. tax. It’s cheaper and has better specs than previous model TR3.

Still no DVD writer. Differences to TR3:

They need a Sony TR5RP (Rojak Pot) edition! Well, I guess the Sony TR is a RP to begin with…it’s got all the good stuff in it already!   

On second thought, I guess Rojak is more of a Malaysian thing…but i’m sure many Singaporeans know what it is.  :wink:

Two weeks ago I was in Singapore. I missed the Rojak (Malay salad)  :(
I liked it very much.

I was thinking of getting TR5 in Singapore, but was dissapointed because at that time TR5 still not available yet (even after 2 month of its launch in Japan). IMHO, the previous model TR3 in Singapore is simply overpriced. I think Sony is aware of the competition from Fujitsu with its newest model P7010.

Now I am planning to get TR5 in my next trip to Singapore

Oh upgrading to TR5? Cool! Maybe meanwhile I see if there are any good deals from some retailers here, will keep you posted if i can find any!

waaaa!!!! alvino there is a large contingent of asians here, even NEPAL of all places…they even sell the TR3 in Kathmandu….(for 33% more than in singapore cause of duty/taxes/etc.) :(

Hmmm i know a shop in kembangan Singapore and they sell goods to notebook retailers. But over time develop a good relation ship with them and they are selling me things really cheap…

eg: Acer notebook was selling at S$2950 got from him at S$2500 with free delivery.

IBM T41 was retailing at S$3300+ got mine at S$2000 even the TR sony i was considering to get it from them. outside was selling at S$3798 and he was offering me at S$3350….  :o

yeap that shop there selling notebook way few hundred bucks below retail pricing.  But the last time i’ve checked with them, they ran out of TRs

well, if the original post in this thread is correct, there is very little difference!  I just got a TR3 too (tr5s may never get here) and as it looks it’s just this:
* OS pro vs. home - no biggie to fix
* ULV 1 vs 1.1 - what’s that?
* Wireless LAN IEEE 802.11b vs 802.11b/802.11g - can be upgraded with bluetooth for little $s - see posts in this forum by groovy - inmho no big deal either, but i hardly ever get to use wireless here and i just bought a bluetooth dongle for about 10usd, works great.

btw, the fujitsu 7010 is sitting right next to the TR3 here in KTM showroom - they have not sold a one of the fujitsu but can’t keep the TR3 on the shelf - they sell as fast as they get them!

I went to one of big Japanese electronic store Yodobashi today and was surprised to see that they sell english version of TR5-GP. Specs are exactly the same as the one in Singapore. Price: 262000 JPY with 10% discount (or to be exact “point system”). You can’t get the 10% disc in cash, but can use it for next purchase of any items in that store.

After-10%, the price is almost the same as in Singapore. But I think in Singapore you may get better deal, since many shops also throw in free gifts. Physical appearance is no difference to TR3 or Japanese model, except the Japanese TR5 comes with built-in bluetooth and DVD writer. The Japanese model is selling at the same price as the english version one.
