I installed win pro on the c: parition and formated it NTSF.  Then I was bored and thought I could get rid of the sony’s paritions and just have one.  But, when I tried to do it in windows.  (Delete it) all it did was keep my C: drive the same size and I couldn’t see D: anymore. 

To make a longer story short I reinstalled and formated through windows xp pro a third time and thought to just leave the sony partions.  And now I have 2 OS installed and its annoying.  When I start up on the boot it gives me the option to pick from two windows xp pro’s OS.  Please help!!!!

I think I can see the second install of win xp pro and its not on C: or D: partion its unassigned and when I try to delete it it won’t work…I tryed to assign it a partion and then try to delete it, no luck.

would it be more simple just to order the recovery cds.  What do the do….Do the format and install the original os….Win xp home?

You probably should have left it alone or at least made the recovery CDs first. Since you didn’t make them, yes, you should probably try to get a set from Sony.

If you still want to install Windows XP Pro from scratch you’ll want to check out the various guides/suggestions posted by members of this forum. Honestly, it’s not necessarily straightforward and takes a little bit of patience. When installing XP Pro from scratch, you have the option to get rid of partitions. In your case, I suggest deleting the existing partitions that you can see from the XP install to ensure there isn’t any previous copies.

If I get ahold of the recovery dvd’s from sony…Will I be good….

What do you mean by good?

If you get ahold of the CDs or DVD, you will be able to return your computer to its factory condition…aka…a usable state. I figure that’s pretty good.

Do you really need XP Pro, if not, then I’d leave well enough alone. If you really must have XP Pro then you may want to follow the path of those who have gone before you. Forum member Rahul has laid out some pretty decent instructions.

I recommend burning or copying all the drivers found in the C:\Windows\Drivers folder a MUST. This will save you time trying to find all or most of the drivers later if you want to do your own clean install.

I think we had a disconnect.  I am not the greatest at computers but I am not stupid.  I think I know too much for my own good and thats how I scew things up.

I already went through and did a clean install of windows xp pro and it was a little or alot time consuming.  And you are right I do not need xp pro….

You explained to me if I order and obtain these recovery disk I will be able to bring it back to the original state….

So let me get this correct even if I messed with it as we explained it will put it back into the orignal condition setup/ when i first bought my TR..

Yes, it will restore your system back to it’s factory settings. I’m sure the Sony support person will verify this when you place your order for the CDs or DVD.
