Oh, there was supposed to be a “maybe” option to the poll, but I guess it didn’t show up. Oh! If you notice the options, you can choose Bluetooth now!!! And up to 2Ghz Pentium M!!! Oh, and the ATI Radeon 9700!!!! And up to 1GB of memory!! So much to customize!!! Ahh!!!
The WUSS-series is dead. This system has definitely claimed its right as the S(uper)-series!!
i just saw one at local frys and i like it
now you can customize it and i m all over it
i guess i’ll buy the 256 MB memory cause it’s too much $$$ for 1x512 MB (add $200)
WOW
btw, does the HD cost that much? 80 GB 5400 rpm for $250?
the drawback of this customize sony is that you have to buy it at sonystyle, means you have to pay the premium… i would rather buy a nice preconfigured one. hopefully they will have it like the V505 series before
Dang… lol For the past 2 weeks I wake up and I couldn’t decide which one to get… and when I went to sleep it was the last thing I thought about it. And during the day it was one of the very few things I thought about it! A few days ago I swore OK I want the TR so I will get it. NO ifs, ands, or buts. Now they make the S customizable and I’m arguing….
The TR is obviously smaller but do you think the S is too big? Size is a big factor for me, but all the options make me want to get it badly plus the screeen….... any suggestions?

I would suggest that you need to at least see them both for yourself.. Personally i don’t find the S Series too big, but a good deal of people on here might, especially coming from a TR!
With regards to the screen I think the TR’s is just as good quality as the S, and is practically the same resolution, so the S Series just feels as a 19” 1280x1024 TFT does compared to a 17” 1280x1024 TFT.
You sounds very confident. (That’s a good thing) Do you have one already? I had one more question but I just forgot it. OH wait nevermind i remmber. Does it have a built in microphone? I know it has the microphone jack though.

Just tested it in Messenger and it doesn’t seem to.. the TR definitely wins on that front then.
Lucky for them I can now take off the WUSS moniker.
And for those of you that are curious, the Type S is arguably in a different category than the TR. I consider both still ultraportable but serving different needs. The Type S is for performance freaks who would have otherwise had to sacrifice mobility for a system that’s definitely in the desktop replacement class. So, the ultraportable desktop replacement.
The TR is still king of do-it-all ultraportables.
The X505 is simply do-some-of-it-but-look-elite-ultraportable.
So, you really should be getting a Type S, IN ADDITION TO your TR. It’s good to cover your bases.

Hehe i had a feeling you’d be up for one of these gr00vy.. are you really going to be keeping the TR as well then? I still have mine for the moment, but will be giving it to my dad as i really can’t see myself using it much now.
Anyway i shall look forward to there being an S Series section to this site when you get one
If it wasn’t for my self-imposed rule of not buying a new laptop until at least 1 year has passed then I would have placed the order already.
I got my TR at the end of Sept 2003. So, I technically have to wait until then. It is possible to break that rule but only under extraordinary circumstances…and I can’t currently justify any. :?
So, yes, there’s a extremely high chance I will buy one of these things. I just have to wait.
This doesn’t mean I’m giving up on the TR at all. I love my TR and look forward to new versions of it. However, knowing that the next version will most likely have integrated graphics again (and knowing that even the nextgen Intel part, while vastly improved, will still be lacking), it’s hard for me to pass up on the Type S. I need the better graphics solution for the type of work I’m going to be doing. Of course, things change and we still don’t know where the TR is headed just yet.
I am kinda in the same boat as gr00vy0ne. I got my TR only 5 mos ago. As much as I would love the performance upgrade and the customization options, I cannot justify this right now. Plus it goes against my mobility needs to increase the screen size that much. I’ll wait and see what the Dothan TR’s will have. Graphics are not as high of a priority for me, so the GMA 900 in a future TR would suit me fine. It has twice the pipe and bandwidth as the current TR’s integrated graphics.
For those of you getting the Type S now….very fortunate you are.
Similar to you gr00vy, i wouldn’t upgrade my laptop within one year unless it was something amazing (like something with the top S Series specs in a TR or lighter form factor).. so luckily it was almost a year to the week that i got my TR1MP when i got the S1XP on Tuesday.
Its very nice i must say, though i do wish it had a more stand out interior colour than the plain old silver, and i really miss having an fn key by the arrows so i can scroll up and down web pages a page at a time. But otherwise i love it.. The 2.0Ghz one will be a beast!
