Nice discription about being a weak Atheist
Same here with the difference have a moslim/christian background my father is from morocco and my mother from the netherlands
thats means double holidays :o in practise
[quote author=“Drachen”]gr00vy0ne: His parents are from Malaysia and he considers himself to be of chinese extraction, so odds are good that he is either muslim or buddhist.
Close! Actually, only my mom is from Malaysia and my father is from mainland China. So, I did grow up in a very Buddhist household and have been influenced by it…although I’m not sure I would call myself a Buddhist or anything for that matter.
I have taken some of the more common beliefs of morality, justice, and love to heart and I would say they probably match up with beliefs of other religions. Consider the following Buddhist beliefs:
“...a state that is not pleasing or delightful to me, how could I inflict that upon another?”
Hurt not others in ways that you yourself would find hurtful.
Yes, it’s common sense…but good stuff to live by.
1. Consider that biblical christianity is the only doctrine that claims ownership of the creation of this world(I’m not referring to the mainstream wacknuts in the U.S….but plain biblical doctrine). All other religious affiliations started after there was already a created world full of inhabited life.
2. Many argue that other religions are older than christianity. This can only be true if Darwin was right.
Anyone with average intelligence will see the paradox I have just laid out. It is human nature not to believe by just being told, but Truth has more power when it is sought after. So what are you waiting for? Truth is not something you should misunderstand at the end of your life.

Did I miss something? Wasn’t Christianity based on Christ? If thats the case, the Old Testament came well before Christ and deals with creation. Second, the Jewish religion came way before Chrisitianity…Christ was a Jew. What am I missing here?
[quote author=“Anonymous”]Erik, I am linking the Old and New testaments together as one doctrine. If you are jewish, then you may or may not believe that the New Testament is the fulfillment of the Old. A deep study of the book of Isaiah, which is Old testament, should remedy this. However most proclaiming Jews have not or will not read the book of Isaiah. Many that have done this have seen some of the Truth. They call themselves Messianic Jews. Then again most “so called christians” have not read the bible at all. I do not associate myself with every man who says he believes. Demons believe and will not enter the Kingdom of Heaven. Furthermore, demons know the bible better than you or I ever will. Another paradox easily figured out by seeking truth.
Even if this is the case, how could you claim that no religion could be older then Christianity (with or without Darwin {not sure where Darwin comes in anyway}?
Simple: if the Bible is right, then the earth is roughly 6,000 years old. How then can any religion be older than the earth? In comes Darwin, who claims that the earth is millions of years old. You may not be concerned just because science is complex / boring and few care to prove him wrong, especially the Jesuit controlled U.S. media.
This will go nowhere if you keep aking me questions, though. Find out for yourself. Then it will have more value to you.
Mans wisdom is foolishness to God (see I Corinthians 3:19). So don’t try to answer questions that you have not sought after with his help. Further, do not rely on me for answers. What if I stray from the path? The book of Jeremiah (Old Testament) says “cursed is he who puts his trust in men”. This verse is especially beneficial to those who rely on their Pastor to give them the only spiritual meal they eat per week.

Can we please not go here? Identification of one’s religion is cool. That’s usually an important part of people’s lives and part of self-identification. Basic description of belief is definitely off-topic, but if done in a respectful manner, it can work. But please, let’s leave the doctrinal discussion far far away from this place. These sorts of threads don’t usually end happily.

The current Jewish Calendar is 5764. The Christian Calendar is 2004 AD.
I don’t see where you draw your conclusion from. You say it must be less then 6,000 years old, Jews believe its 5,764 which is under 6,000. Christianity came well after Judaism (since Jesus was Jewish, and are currently being blamed for his death)...so its pretty clear to me that Jews were around a long time before Christians…
I am not saying one religion is better then the other, I am not very spiritual and would gladly leave Judaism for any other religion if the world would agree to one religion and end fighting.
Drachen, you are absolutely right. If everyone is civil it can work. However, people tend to allow emotion to attach them to the outcome of the discussion. This is not the case with me. That is why I encourage everyone to study on their own. No person could have convinced me of the Truth I have divinely found. As soon as somebody gets their panties in a wad, I’m no longer interested in the discussion.
If there is no appeal to your intellect here, then don’t reply. You can peek as often as you like though.
We could use a thread or two like this, however, to break the mundane. Some of us have spent time getting to know each other here. There is more to life than just geekiness. Last I checked, we were off topic. At the first sign of a flame, a mod could just lock the thread.
Erik, that is why I said roughly 6,000 years old. You make deliniations between Judaism and Christianity. They are one and the same in my bible. The Jewish sect that have not embraced the New Testament disassociate themselves from those that claim to be Christian.
You mentioned that the Jews are being blamed for his death. That is sad, because MAN has casted that judgement, not the bible. Jesus freely gave himself to be killed. It matters not that the people were Jewish or any other cultural affiliation. Hope that helps.
I cannot stress enough to read for yourself, I can only help you so much. Your creator will answer ANY question you have if you will only ask, seek, and knock at his door (Luke 11:9)

We have the same bible (to a point). How, in your mind did Jews become Chrisitians, if we were known as Jews before Jesus?
There has to be a split between what Jews believe and what Christians believe, and the fact of the matter is that Chrisitans had their beliefs after the Jews, just because you wish to lump them together does not change the fact that the Christian religion (in its entirety) was created after.
This is why I dislike titles such as “Christian” and “Jew”.
Let me be more specific, since we are having difficulty. I embrace that which is written in your Old Testament. It seems as if the only difference between us is that I embrace the New Testament as well. I consider the two to be one book.
Christians and Jews were the same people until Jesus arrived. That is when the so called split happened that you make reference to.
You asked the question of how did Jews become Christians. My answer is when they accepted Christ as the savior of their fallen and depraved condition. Saul was a jew, and he slaughtered anyone who claimed to have faith in the risen Christ. He was a murderer of Christians! He was confronted by Jesus himself in Damascus, and then ended up writing 90% of the New Testament that the mainstream Jews will not embrace. You may have heard his name as the apostle Paul.
You are right, Erik, the Christian religion was coined after the birth of Christ. The roots of that religion, however, go all the way back to the days of Moses, Abraham, Issac, and Jacob, and even creation itself!
Being Jewish is a matter of birthright. Christianity welcomes both the jew and non-jew. Christianity is not a matter of physical birth, but spiritual birth. The latter matters most when you breath your last breath in this world.
As I have said, though, don’t take it from me. Seek it out for yourself. You will never be convinced by my mere words. Never.

We aren’t arguing facts, we are arguing semantics.
Your not accepting the common use of the names of the religions. Personally, it sounds strange to hear you state that Christianity was the first religion when its clear that whatever you want to call it was titled Judaism well before. The fact that your relgion stems from it doesn’t change the fact that the current Jewish religion came first and the fact that its still being practiced in the same way it was when Chrisitianity was formed leads me consider them 2 different religions.
Its almost like saying my Sony TR is an Erik TR because I did the upgrades. Sure, both started out as a Sony TR, but mine has the newer components…now I go on to say that Erik TR was the first TR (completely ignoring that it was originally a Sony TR).
