WELl I just got the Nepali version of Broadband installed here and it’s baffling. But what I want to do is to unteather the TR from the ethernet port so I can travel around my flat surfing the web. I may also want to allow my downstairs neighbor to share the connection, as it’s the only one of it’s kind in my area (who knows, a rooftop cyber cafe on my patio?).
Here is a screen shot of the insanity below, but basically it’s an ethernet line to a radio transmitter on the roof, and then network wise, they are using a PPP connection at 10 mps. Is this what u guys call broadband?
anyway, the point here is that I would like to go wireless, as mentioned and i need some help on what hardware to get. I am assuming this is my shopping list:
*** A wireless router (or hub?) to plug the ethernet cable into that is coming from the radio transmitter on my roofdeck - pointed towards Everest.
*** Anything else? How much are they about?
I have no idea how to configure something like this in XP, as currently there is a lan connection and then an ISDN dialup adapter to deal with, and that kinda baffles me a bit. I never had to work like this before.
Ideas? Thoughts? Advice? Thanks!!!!
Also, is there a broadband measuring tool so I can check to see if the bandwitdh that i am paying for is what I am getting? It seems a tad faster than a good 56K modem connection, so I am not very impressed. Will it get slower if I go wireless? Will my downstairs flat mate even have a slower go of it?
Jigs….oh, here’s the picture:
