[quote author=“gameson”]i know the screen is 8.9 inch, but i like to have small laptop. for me, it’s a matter of portability. i like to have something that i can take out right away and easy to navigate with one hand, rather than have to sit down, put the pc on your lap then start browsing.
Portability is good up to a point. I temper portability with usability. And usability is different from person to person. Because of the work I do when I’m mobile, anything less than 10.6” at 1280x768 is basically unusable. I do a lot of photoshop, app dev, and site building and most of those tools require more real estate for palettes, etc.
I don’t like how they basically dodge the question about the resolution. They say it “pans to 2048x1536”....I don’t know anyone who uses their notebook or computer in a pan and scan mode. For those who want to know it’s 1024x600 native resolution which should be ok for that sized monitor.
At any rate, I’m not saying this is a bad notebook or anything. It is in the same class as the TR but I see it as a less productive system due to the smaller screen. For instance, it’s probably a decent secondary system when you don’t need to do lots of work on it. So, simple document creation, checking e-mail, surfing the Internet, and IM will be sufficient. I just feel that the TR’s slightly larger size (though same weight) and higher resolution screen push it into a different level in terms of usability.
