...That said.    It IS indeed a very sweet looking keyboard.

There you go, Apple have released their new screens… and don’t they look awesome!

The bigger news (besides the fact that they finally made the design match the G5) is that Apple apparently has dropped the ADC connector. They now claim to be using standard DVI jacks. Did anyone else notice that Macs can’t use the 30” panel until the 6800 comes out for the Mac in August?

It might be worth looking into getting a DLP projector instead then. I can’t watch a movie on both monitors anyway. My DVD player only works on my primary monitor.

Dang. I was hoping that they’d lower the price of the 20” model. Well, for PC users, technically, they did since you no longer need the stupid ADC adapter. Yay! Saved $50!

Oh, and finally. Apple gets there heads on straight and you have physical brightness controls. This removes the real final barrier for PC users. I’m going to have to now possibly consider retiring my SGI 17” monitor…but not until i see these in person.

Considering the fact that they are pitching them at the design market, among other things, they are probably fantastic LCD displays. A merch designer I know uses a 20”(?) professionally… then again t-shirts have slightly different needs than print designers.

Back on subject: I’d kill to get a dual 30” LCDs. :drool: Then again, what would I do with all that real estate? I’d probably get 6 FPS in Far Cry at native resolution too…

And your Dual 30” might need two cards to drive them. Then, if you want high performance then you’ll need those newly announced Nvidia 6800 Ultra cards in SLI thus you’ll need four 16x PCI Express slots for the four $400-500 video cards you’ll need.  And since they’re Nvidia, you’ll likely need your own power generator. At least your place will be nice and toasty during the winter months.  :wink:  :wink:

My own complaint about the Apple monitors is that again, they don’t have adjustable height. Seems like a fundamental design flaw. Less of an issue if you have an adjustable desk.

I’m not as versed in this stuff as you guys, but since the TR has a VGA port won’t you just be wasting money hooking it up to a DVI monitor? ?

I’m pretty sure we’re talking about using these monitors on a desktop pc, not the TR.

Would love to trade in my current 23” for a new one, or perhaps even the 30”.. but it ain’t going to happen anytime soon. :(

According to Apple’s website, a GeForce 6800 Ultra card will handle both, no SLI needed. That said, the card on the Apple site looks significantly longer than most of the GF 6800U cards I’ve seen.

Where’s your sense of “this is very fucking cool”? Seriously though, one of the two LCD monitors on my desk is driven by an analog VGA signal. It’s not quite as sharp or accurate as the DVI, but it’s nicer IMO than a CRT.

Fair enough 8) .  After all, that was certainly part of the thinking in getting the TR in the first place.
