Maybe a stupid question but…........... what the hell

Can you overclock a laptop?
Can you overclock a TR?
If so how do you do it?

Well I’m pretty sure you can’t overclock the TR and I doubt there are many laptops which you can overclock as it always produces extra heat which is a big enough issue with laptops as it is.  I’m sure gr00vy or drachen or the like will give you a more precise answer but I felt I’d say my bit!

We say ‘no’ because it introduces more problems than benefits and in some cases it isn’t possible. Of course most of us don’t see the point of doing it. Typically, any increase in speed diminishes battery life and most people here purposely bought the TR for the long battery life.

Also, it’s my opinion that overclocking is overrated. For the most part, current available CPUs are so far ahead of most general software (except for some games, scientific programs, and some multimedia apps) and run them more than fine.

If only Adobe Acrobat knew what you were talking about, gr00vy.  Viewing and manipulating complex PDF files in Acrobat is like electronic masochism. 

But, otherwise, I would concur.  The TR handles all my common tasks with aplomb.

Do you mean in the actual loading/viewing of PDF files or the creation of PDF files?

I know that for the former, Acrobat Reader is a dog slow application and I envy Mac OS X users who have that PDF engine built into quartz. However, you can “optimize” Acrobat Reader’s load up time by simply unloading a lot of the useless plug-ins it’s loading. You can download the program here . Read the instructions first! It’s straightforward and dramatically cuts load times.

At work we were all running basic Acrobat (reduced plugins) and it sped things up quite a bit.
