I live in NJ…i’d say 80-90% of the people here don’t care about Soccer in any way. If my father wasn’t born outside the US I wouldn’t have cared either.
I have my tickets for Manchester United vs. Ac Milan on the 31st in NJ…can’t wait.
[quote author=“chokran”]It has been better some days ago, but since the swiss team got kicked out and the spitting incident of Alex Frei, atmosphere has somewhat cooled down.
It’s just too bad that Switzerland is in Group B, which is the toughest group. :(
[quote author=“chokran”]I’m really looking forward to see the Netherlands asses getting kicked…

I have guessed so. This is a rather US centric forum. NBA is great too, juz that Lakers is such a disappointment. :(

Italy is out so I should not care that much anymore. But, I reallly like the sport. Problem is most games are on while I’m at work so I have to follow on the net which kinda suck coz I’m missing all the actions. :?

They may be missing out on something really great. A true world spectator sport: the 2002 World Cup recorded “total” viewing figures in excess of 28.8 billion, while the final itself between Brazil and Germany in Yokohama attracted in excess of 1.1 billion viewers.

I concur. I come to school with a Manchester United shirt on, and most people are like, what’s that, a cracker company or something? I swear. I could strangle most of my friends. TICKETS!? You have tickets? Heh, I have the telly. and that’s it. :?

You really want something to make the Americans even more nationalistic about?
Well the great thing is about something like Euro2004 or the World Cup is that if your team looses (a fairly regular occurance) you can’t just say the game is crap and sulk off. There is something satisfying about picking another country/team to support and following them with a passion through the stages.
Sorry chokran, It is wall to wall rooney here. Can we go all the way? I hope so. I agree that even if your country is nout it is still great entertainment.

I agree ... Italy is out ... sad but so what ... I am now thinking of France. Vive la France!

its just late night non-stop beer sluber parties sometimes at the “garage” where u also wish the mossies would quit pickin on the fair white meat in the crowd and ya sit on ur bikes outdoors, like a kinda old fashioned drive in theatre, only it’s a tiney 14” teleivision that ya have to bang a bit to get the game clear enough to see. even typing this while waiting for the game to start here at home, gotta wait till midnight here, they are chewing on my legs. but i got my chilled tubor bottle and it just stopped monsoon raining all day so its’s nice and cool. got dave mathhews some devil on the digital hi fi and maybe smoked abit too much weed - “save me, save me if u can or i am too far gone to get back home” but its all good here in kathmandu nepal - long live geek - go forth and prosper. all that jazz
man.

I Work in Manchester and can see ManU’s Footy ground from my office window. All the people in my office are City supporters, from my boss down. My good friend works on the floor below and all the people in his office are United supporters.
The whole office talks football all the time. As for me I was born within walking distance of City’s ground, but grew up listening to the ‘Manchester United Calypso’ - great song.
Unfortunately, I prefer speedway and the great Belle Vue Aces are not the force they once were.
I have a passing knowledge of footy and no-one I know cares about speedway :(
However, just lile in Euro 96 when the whole of Manchester buzzed with continental european fans, the atmosphere is electric after every match night.
It’s a wonder any work gets done at all, but then again we are all civil servants and drink coffee all day long, telling everyone that the cheque’s in the post
All in all, a great life

We (American’s) just don’t have the same excitement the world does with Soccer…
