This procedure works on the TR’s 1.8” drive as well.

That’s hilario….err….extremely informative. It’s a little different than the method I use but probably just as, if not more, effective as my technique. The use of steel wool was a nice touch. I typically use a fine grit sandpaper for the polishing. I’ll definitely have to invest in steel wool. 

Looking at the english part of the site, they have a really fun… er… great article about changing your grapics card out too.

I’ve found the best way to clean my Hard Drive (after taking it apart) is to use a Brillo pad and light sand paper..it really gets down to the base to clean it right up!

I tried it with the hdd in my desktop…

I’ve just had a nice day trying to prevent some nice ‘software’ from killing my clients websites…

This little virus/trojan whatever decides to replace all the index files within each folder on the webserver, with some super text that pokes fun at everyone…

It’s frightening to see your work being so swiftly removed before your very eyes.

Looks like someone hacked into the host company’s server and they’re trying to restore backups as we speak..

Anyhow I have come close to following the instructions in Groovy’s post above many times for real , just to show my computers who is boss..

I’m sure I’d never punish my TR that way though..

OH man. The first step, I was like, cool, woah, i can make my laptop lighter just by removing ‘excess’ metal? HAHAHA.  Geez, I had my screwdriver out and everything ready.    But that was fun, esp the Brillo pad. I"m thinking though, just dip it in a Coke solution over night, that ought to help.

When I used to work for an agency in London i used to ‘punish’ my hardware regularly by taking components out and dunking them in my coffee, or rapidly pulling the cd drive drawer in and out if it refused to open quick enough…

I’m much better now.
