I am lookin for an external hard drive similar to the PCGA-HDM06.  The price kinda surprised me,  but I don’t know the first thing about external HD’s.  Please lead me in the right direction and suggest any alternatives.  or would this be a good fit for me?  I am basically only gonna use it for music and video storage.

I use the Sony 80 gb firewire giga vault drive and it works very well for me..but its more expensive than the PCGA-HDM06 drive. The only problem is that if u use it with the TR, u need to connect the power adapter since the TR has the 4 pin firewire interface and the giga vault drive can be bus powered only if the comp has a 6 pin firewire interface.

Another option is just buy a regular external harddrive like the 250 gb ones.

If you want something portable then look for the LeClie portable HDD’s They are firewire 6 pin but ship with a 4 pin cable and can be powered via the USB port that is right next to the firewire.

BTW - wasn’t someone looking and knocking up some adaptor for the power socket?

I use a Pika One Fly Case 2.5” external 40 gb hard drive for storing my audio data - USB powered and tiny in size…

i got the PCGA-HDM06 and loved it. its nice to put the firewire port to use.

I was also looking at PCGA-HDM06, but that hard drive is too pricey for the features it has. It looks nice and matches VAIO but with 4200 Rmps for 60 gig and over $300 :shock:  is a little bit too much. I picked up an external 120 Gig from Sams for $118. It is USB 2.0 and 7200 Rmps from SimpleTech.  :D

yeah, the price on the PCGA-HDM06 is a bit steep. i got it for about 300 dollars shipped from sonystyle with a coupon.
