A question for the true hardcore hardware gurus out there…

(1) :?: Dual SATA RAID :?:  is?

In my search for an upgraded barebones system, I ran into the problem of choosing between an AMD processor which has 64bit processing and an Intel processor which has hyperthreading. I’m planning to go with a 3.2Mhz CPU speed with 800Mhz FSB. Which is “better”

(2) :?: AMD 64bit processing or Intel HT :?:

Your comparing 2 different types of CPUs.

Since intel is not a 64 bit chip it cannot run the 64 bit Windows. If this is important to you, then look no further then AMD. Both Intel and AMD are changing how their chips will be very shortly, so whatever you buy now, it will not be upgradable in the near future. If you don’t need the PC right now i’d stay away from high end (3 GHZ+) systems.

IMO the cost is too high for the short time they will be upgradable.

As for the RAID question, SATA is different from IDE that it is hot swapable meaning you can physically remove a SATA drive while the computer remains on.

Dual SATA raid means that you have a SATA controller (the standard nowadays) with two channels (two disks) that can support RAID configurations for two disks: stripping and mirroring.

Guess, I’ll stay away from getting a new system for now. 

My other computer won’t even turn on after I replaced the CPU compound. So that’s why I was thinking about getting a new system.
And I’m using a 466Mhz Celeron for my online activities—Ughh :oops:
