Do any U.S. model TR’s come with bluetooth?

(I know the TR5 is ‘coming’).

I’m looking for one that is already on the shelf, here in the U.S.  If so, what retailers have it?

Or, you can get yourself a Sony Z1 notebook which does come with integrated Bluetooth….go figure!

Have they discontinued the Z1 yet?  I’m too lazy to look for myself. :D

the z1 is still around…but barely.

when the s series hits the u.s. in july, the z1 should be gone by then.

The Type ‘S’ sure is turning heads on this forum.  I hope the U.S. version can deliver on the Japanese features.  Looks like that may not be the case.  gr00vy said we wont even get BT.  That would stink!

Yeah, i think i might actually be crazy enough to import a japanese domestic model Type S. Don’t get me wrong…i love my TR to death but I could also see myself being perfectly happy with the Type S. In fact, if you’ve seen my previous rants, I think that the 4lb. 12” notebook is the most ideal size…of course, Sony has to make things even better with a 4lb. 13.3” notebook that has crazy discrete graphics (basically the best you can get in the ATI Mobile 9700 chipset) among other great features.

Of course, the model that I really want (fully maxed out) ends up being 341,250円. Of course, I guess I could scale back the 1.8Ghz processor for the 1.5Ghz model and then it’s only 309,750円. Yikes…basically $300 for 300 more Mhz…although saying i have a Dothan would be neat.

We’ll see…it’s also entirely possible there will be a new TR later this year so I want to make sure I know as much as I can before buying.

Went to check out the TR5AP, was hoping for integrated Bluetooth on new model.  It didn’t mention it on the web site so I spoke with a representative.  Turns out there is still no BT in the new model (at least for US).  Very suprised.

If you’ve been around here for a while then you would know that the lack of bluetooth in the US market is a sore point since it’s present in all the Japanese and European models.

The US in general has done a poor job in promoting Bluetooth in any sense. So, most companies shy away from the technology even though it’s been around for a long time. The only “real” computer company embracing it is Apple. How sad is that?

And dispite the claims that BT isn’t an american thing, the BT upgrade thread is the most popular on the site. If Sony doesn’t think that their overpriced, proprietary and well-designed computers are aimed at enthusiasts and those who prize high technology, who exactly are they pitching their computers at? At the very least, Apple as you said understands and appreciates their audience.

Hmmm…. I think I get it. They’re trying to market to the user who spends a lot on their computer and time on messageboards reading about expensive aftermarket upgrades from Sony parts and the will to void their warranty: all 517 of us, I guess.

Along those same lines, I hope that the discontinuation of the Z1 isn’t a sign that Sony “experimented with the BT feature and gave up”.  I wonder what they pay the guys in reasearch and developement.  I also would like to know how Sony tracks the usage of features in the U.S.
