Hi-MD will change your life! It’s the new floppy disk of the new millenium!!! Muhahahahaha!!! You non-MD pagans!!! Bow down to ATRAC compression! It laughs and spits on your Fraunhoffer-based MP3s…and then it kicks some dirt on it for good measure!!!
Obviously, I’m kidding.
My only MP3 player ever has been the Creative Labs Muvo2 4GB device. I only bought it because I wanted to extract the 4GB Hitachi Microdrive out of it for use with my 8MP digital camera. I saved $300. I decided to stick a leftover 512MB CF card in it and am trying it out now. It’s decent and works. I do like the simple drag and drop interface and the sound quality is decent. The styling and case quality leave something to be desired. The display is excellent in broad daylight but it’s awful in low light situations. The backlight is useless…there’s almost no discernible contrast.
I still use my MD player as my main music device. Yes, it doesn’t hold as much and I have convert my music but the sound quality is excellent and I have great cases for it…especially when at the gym. Also, the remote control for it is so easy to use and the battery on that thing lasts a really long time. I get 160 minutes of music per disc which is typically more than enough music for when I’m using it.
God, I love the MD… it’s not going anywhere, so hold your tongue. I still use mine pretty regularly when i run and such where the player will be shaken around a bit, I don’t feel too comfy bringing my HD player along.
So, I use both an MD player and a Creative Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra. The Xtra is mostly used in my car and to get files around, and I can keep pretty much my whole collection on there (40gb drive). I used to have a 2nd gen iPod, but got rid of it. I’m an audiophile like many others of you out there, and i didnt care much for the sound quality. The Xtra sounds awesome, and I can use EAX controls, EQ and all that good stuff.
Paired with some Shure in-ear headphones, I’m in heaven. Anyone else use e2c or e5c’s? What do you think of ‘em?
they all dead but the ipod. i have a 40gig and love it, but had to buy a battery pack to make it useable on long rides (can’t figure out how to wire it the Royal Enfield yet). still have only filled 25% of the thing with GOOD music. i’ll be dead before i do i suspect.

Yeah, thats why I got the Dell DJ over the iPod…I wanted 16-22 hours of battery on one charge, not 6-9. I refuse to carry around a battery backup device for an Mp3 player. At least you were able to get 40GB, Dell only makes a max. of 20. :x
Well, I love my Sony MZ N10, but all the ATRAC conversion is annoying (two lots of files on my hard drive now..), as is lack of space on the discs.. I tend to find my self burning MP3 CD’s instead to play on my Sony D-CJ01, these discs can then also be played in my car, so the poor old MD only tends to get used for recording our gigs or rehearsals…poor thing.
I love my ipod but don’t love the battery or the remote which craped out in no time. I get four hours max out of it which is not fantastic. And after about a year I can expect the battery to die.
Yeah, that’s one of the most disappointing things with the iPod. I refuse to buy one until they address the battery issue with a more reasonable solution. The easiest thing to do would be to introduce a user replaceable battery.
That’s the one thing about my old MD player NZ-1. It uses a user replaceable NiHM battery which is easily replaceable and cheap. Also, they seem to last a long time. I’ve had mine since 2001 and the thing still lasts at least 14 hours. I have one spare ($15 at the time) giving me a nice 28 hours. If I use the clever AA battery attachment then it boost the playback time to 40-50 hours. We can bash Sony all we want but they really have refined and optimized their MD/ATRAC platform. Also, every generation, the playback gets even better, the sound quality improves (and it’s already extremely good), and the capacity increases.
I’m all about the small form factor when it comes to MP3 players.
And it must have an FM tuner, as I like to get radio news from time to time. The one that I got is able to record radio and voice and has an FM tuner and has about 256MB of storage. It can also transmit to a radio.
I got this MP3 player called Muro off of Ebay. Don’t know if you’ve heard of it.
[quote author=“GoatCamel”]It can also transmit to a radio.
:D
goat Camel, can’t u pack more than that? and a radio that transmits to radio. I wonder what u can do with that!?!
i just dont get these small mp3 players. ya cant hold more than a cd’s worth and then are always syncing with something to change the music. might as well go back to MD player in that case. well, good luck!

My brother is looking at the Network Walkman (all his music is in ATRAC due to the fact that he has a Vaio PC) but the price is definitely scaring him off. He’s an avid jogger, so he wants something to be as light and inobtrusive as humanly possible.
I own a Ipod 20GB.
And I must say that I’m happy with this Device. Like to carry my complete Mp3Collection with me.
The Battery isn’t a big problem for me as I don’t travel that much (if we don’t count my 15min trip to work :D)
